NARROWS, Va. —
Jennie Long Psathos, 87, of Narrows, and for the last ten months of her life in Roanoke, Va., died on Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2012 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital after a brief acute illness. She was born on April 10, 1925 in Filbert, W.Va., to the late Dan and Anna Muscatello Long.
Jennie was the widow of the late Harry Psathos. She and her husband were the owners of the Psathos Café in Narrows, where they made many friends. She was also retired from Celanese Acetate in Narrows with 28 years of service. She enjoyed family get-togethers, crocheting, knitting, working word searches, and social bingo. She was a longtime member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Pearisburg.
Besides parents and her husband, she was predeceased by a brother, Joe Long, and a special son-in-law, Marshall Page.
Jennie is survived by a daughter and caregiver, Mary Anna Psathos Page of Roanoke; sons, Danny Psathos and wife, Linda, and Anthony Psathos and wife, Trish, both of Pearisburg; grandchildren include, Kim Griggs (Steve), Dr. Shayne Page (Mary), Derick Page (Karin), Jodi Psathos, Ashley Psathos, Heather Pennington (Benji), and Kelly Minnick (Robert); eight great-grandchildren, and a special grand-dog, Kody; a brother, Jimmy Longo (Theresa) of Thomasville, N.C.; a sister, Frances Snyder of Newport News, Va.; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Sept. 21, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Pearisburg with the Rev. Father Louis Benoit officiating. Burial will follow in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at Riffe's Funeral Service in Narrows Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. The family requests that those sending memorial contributions, please consider either Holy Family Catholic Church; 516 Mason Court Drive; Pearisburg, VA 24134, or the Narrows Volunteer Fire Department; 133 Center Street; Narrows, VA 24124.
