James Howard Oxley Sr.
KELLYSVILLE — James Howard Oxley, Sr., 96, of 620 Whitt's Road in Kellysville went to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 9, 2013 at the Princeton Health Care Center.
Born June 20, 1916 in Athens he was the son of the late Estle Oxley and Deliah Martin Oxley. James was retired from Appalachian Power Company with 30 1/2 years service and was a U.S. Army veteran serving in World War II. He was a member of the Mt. Jackson Baptist Church in Athens. James loved farming and riding his horses. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Ralph Oxley, Harold Oxley, and Clarence Oxley; and one sister, Margaret Shupp.
Survivors include his wife of seventy one years and the love of his life, Mona Meadows Oxley, of Kellysville; three sons, James Oxley, Jr. and wife Carolyn, Richard Oxley and his friend Margaret, and Danny Oxley, all of Kellysville; one daughter, Dana Matanoski and husband Gregory, of New Kent, Va.; five grandchildren, Rodney Oxley and wife Michelle, Sheraine Gunnoe and husband Keith, Andrea Leippi and husband Steve, all of Princeton, Randy Oxley, of Nashville, Tenn., and Adam Matanoski and fiancé April, of New Kent, Va.; five great-grandchildren, Aaron Oxley and wife Amy, Ashleigh Oxley, Casey Gunnoe, Alec Gunnoe, and Madison Gunnoe, all of Princeton; two great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Pearis Oxley of South Carolina and Bennie Oxley and wife Ethel of Athens; one sister, Rosalie McKenzie of the Harmony House in Lerona; 10 nieces and nephews; and his extended family at Princeton Health Care Center.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 13, 2013 at the Mt. Jackson Baptist Church in Athens with Pastor Tony Miller and Pastor Franklin Adkins officiating. Interment will follow at the Athens Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Rodney Oxley, Adam Matanoski, Kenny Lewis, Steve Leippi, Keith Gunnoe, and Aaron Oxley. Friends may call from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 12, 2013 (today) at Fredeking Funeral Service in Oakvale and at the church one hour prior to the service on Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Princeton Health Care Center, 315 Courthouse Rd., Princeton, WV 24740. Fredeking Funeral Service in Oakvale is serving the Oxley family.
