BLUEFIELD, Va. —
Richard Neil Meredith of Colonial Gardens Apartments, Bluefield, Va., formerly of Union Street, Bluefield and Northfork, W.Va., passed away Friday, October 26, 2012 at Tazewell Community Hospital following an extended illness.
Richard was the son of the late Walter R. “Buss” Meredith and Beulah Kemp Meredith, of Northfork, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his wife: Carolyn Ann Meredith; two siblings: James D. Meredith and Nancy A. Meredith Childress.
Richard, born January 10, 1941 was a thirty-year employee of the McDowell County Board of Education and retired as a bus driver with thirty years of service. He was proud to have attended New Vision Pentecostal Church where he was a part-time Sunday school teacher and choir member and a graduate of Northfork-Elkhorn High School at Northfork.
He is survived by his only living brother: Robert W. Meredith and wife Linda of Bluefield; a sister: Janet Decker and husband Jerry of Johnson City, Tenn.; nephews: Robert G., Michael C., David N., and Rick Meredith; nieces: Tina M. Pittman, Leanne Hollyfield, Jennifer Hopson, Rebecca Madison, and Shree Davis.
Friends may call Sunday, October 28, 2012 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home. Funeral services for Mr. Meredith will be held Monday, October 29, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ronnie Kennett officiating and assisted by the Rev. Pat Wheeler. Burial will follow at the Woodlawn Memorial Park Cemetery located in Bluewell. Serving the family as pallbearers will be: Nephews and Great-Nephews.
