PRINCETON —
Bernard Jackson “Jack” Gilmer, 84, of Gum Street, Princeton, died suddenly early Tuesday morning, October 23, 2012 at Princeton Community Hospital.
Born September 26, 1928, at Cambria, Virginia, he was the son of the late George Gilmer and Evie Gilmer Linkous.
Jack was a veteran of World War II serving with the U.S. Navy, he received the World War II Victory Medal and served on the USS Warrington.
For most of Jack's life, he worked in sales, having retired from Bluefield Supply Company. Prior to moving to Princeton, he lived in Pulaski, Virginia where he was a member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) where he served as an Elder and taught Sunday School.
After his retirement, Jack kept busy, having volunteered for Princeton Community Hospital, working in the garden and being a true jack of all trades. He loved West Virginia and always had a smile on his face.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Patrick Conner; a baby son, Bernard Jack Gilmer Jr. and a baby daughter, Brenda Faye Gilmer.
Survivors include his loving wife of 31 years, whom he loved dearly, Martha Gilmer; daughter, Coretha Loughridge and husband Johnny of Tyler, Texas; stepdaughter, Sheryl Conner of Bedford, Texas; grandchildren, Lindsey Conner and Paul Morra; two great-grandchildren; siblings, Velma Kinzie of Roanoke, Va., Shirley Ann Linkous of Blacksburg, Va., Joyce Feazell of Roanoke, Va., C.B. Linkous of Riner, Va.; special friend, Sara Lancaster of Blacksburg, Va.
A graveside service will be held 4:00 p.m. Thursday, October 25, 2012 at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton with his son-in-law, Pastor Johnny Loughridge officiating.
A time of sharing will be held Thursday from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at the Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road in Princeton.

Serving as pallbearers will be Greg Linkous, Timothy Linkous, Brandon Linkous, Robert Dowdy, Gary Dowdy, Mike Dowdy, and B.J. Dotson.
