TAZEWELL, Va. —
Sherdy Ray Morton, age 72, of North Tazewell, Va. passed away Tuesday, November 6, 2012 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, Va. Born September 26, 1940 at Charleston, W.Va., he was a son of the late George and Ethel Barton Morton. He attended the Open Door Community Church at Baptist Valley, Va. Mr. Morton loved the outdoors and fishing. He always enjoyed being with his grandchildren and sitting on the porch.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers; three sisters, and one son, Billy Morton.
He is survived by four daughters, Nancy McManama and husband, Tom of Fredericksburg, Va., Melissa Valdizon and husband, Edwin of Charlotte, N.C., Teresa Mitchell and husband, David of North Tazewell, Va., and Sheila Friesel and husband, Bruce of Riverview, Fla.; one son, Darrell Morton of North Tazewell, Va.; one sister, Evelyn Simms of Michigan; twenty grandchildren, Charles Williams, Johnathan Quesenberry, Bruce Friesel, III. Darrell Morton Jr., Michael Morton, Carl Mitchell, David Mitchell Jr., John Morton, Justin Morton, Dustin Morton, Jeremy Morton, Sherdy Totora, James Totora, Patricia Leftwich, Bridgett Morton, Alexis Morton, Amanda Sawyers, Brittany McManama, K.J. Friesel, and Cindy Pridemore, and many great-grandchildren; two adopted grandchildren, Reese Balenger and Syrie Garcia; his aid and best friend, Gene Mosley.
A memorial service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday, November 10, 2012 at the Open Door Community Church in Baptist Valley, Va. with Pastor Charlie McGlothlin officiating.
In honoring his wishes, he will be cremated and burial will be private.
