Sherald Gene Pendry

PRINCETON — Sherald Gene Pendry, 70, of Pendry Lane, Princeton, died early Thursday morning, November 1, 2012 at Princeton Community Hospital with his family at his side.

Born April 8, 1942, at Key Rock, he was the son of Ted L. Pendry and Lucille Stewart Pendry of Princeton.

Sherald was a graduate of Oceana High School, Class of 1960. He then joined the U.S. Navy in August of 1960, and had served aboard the USS Ellison and the USS Robert K. Huntington.

Sherald was a certified welder, working for Hydraulics' Inc. of Princeton, Eimco Corporation of Bolt and retired as a the Quality Control Supervisor for IPM Corporation in Princeton.

Sherald was an active member of the Pisgah United Methodist Church for more than 40 years, having served as a Trustee, a member of the Pisgah Community Playground Committee and various other areas within the church. He was devoted to his Lord, and loved his family dearly, especially his granddaughters.

At an early age, Sherald earned the highest honor given to a Boy Scout; he earned the Eagle Scout Award. He was a lifetime member of the NRA, the American Legion Charleston Post and a volunteer at the World War Museum. Sherald loved the outdoors, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, working in the garden and playing with his granddaughters.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sheri Lyn Pendry; his mother-in-law, Edna Mae Cooper; brothers-in-law, Benny Ray Cooper and Herman Shumate; and his grandmothers, Addie Stewart and Dora Stewart.

He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his beloved wife of 48 years, Linda Mae Cooper Pendry; two children, Kevin Ray Pendry, Amy Nicole Goode and husband Jack all of Princeton; three granddaughters, the love of his heart, Sydney Faith Waugh, Teagan Hope Waugh, and Madison Elaine Goode; three siblings, Mary Lee Easter and husband Kenneth of Clermont, Fla., Ted Pendry Jr. and wife Elizabeth of Princeton, James O “Jim” Pendry and wife Colleen of Lexington, Va.; his-in-laws, Kenneth Eugene Cooper and wife Dreama of Hinton, Billy Joe Cooper and wife Elsie of Pineville, Donna Sue Shumate of Pineville; a host of nieces and nephews.

A service to celebrate the life of Sherald Pendry will be held 1:00 p.m. Sunday, November 4, 2012 from the Burns Wornal Chapel of the Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road in Princeton with Pastor Bob Boozer officiating. Burial will follow in the Cooper Family Cemetery near Pineville. Military honors will be by the Oceana VFW Post No. 8364 of Wyoming County.

A time of sharing and gathering will be held Saturday from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Serving as pallbearers will be his nephews and friends.
