COLUMBIA, S.C. —
Mary Lou Duncan, 85, of Columbia, died on Thursday, October 25, 2012. Born on January 13, 1927 in Pikeville, Ky., she was a daughter of the late Charles Smith Duncan and Melvina Sheppard Duncan..
Ms. Duncan was a graduate of Bluefield High School and Bluefield State College of Nursing. She began her nursing career at Bluefield Sanitarium in Bluefield, W.Va. before moving to Columbia where she was employed with Palmetto Health Baptist until her retirement in 1992. Ms. Duncan was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy in Blythewood.
Survivors include her nephew, Bill Booth; her church family; special friends, Susan Danieley of Ohio, Carolyn Barnio, Dorothy Matthews Talley, Francis Owensby, and Mary Haynes, all of Columbia.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Archie and Cleveland Bevins; sisters, Catherine Booth and Martha Staton.
A memorial service for Ms. Duncan will be held 12 o'clock, Monday, October 29th, at Shives Funeral Home, Colonial Chapel, 5202 Colonial Dr., Columbia, with The Rev. Elex Tyler officiating. The family will greet friends prior to the service beginning at 11 o'clock.
