Fred Nelson Johnson

MARYTOWN — Fred Nelson Johnson, age 66, of Marytown, W.Va., passed away Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2012, at his residence. Born March 1, 1946, in Welch, W.Va., he was the son of the late Bill and Dorothy Dingus Johnson of Marytown.

He attended schools in McDowell County and was a 1964 graduate of Welch High School. After graduation he was drafted into the Marine Corp. and served from 1965 until 1967. After returning home he went to Michigan, where he worked for General Motors from 1968 to 2006, retiring with 38 years of service. He loved hunting and being home here in West Virginia.

He was preceded in death by, in addition to his parents; one sister, Martha Ann Damron; and one brother, S. Howard Johnson.

Survivors include five brothers, James E. Cantrell and wife, Carol, of Spring, Texas, Doug Johnson of Bluewell, Robert Johnson and wife, Linda, of Knightdale, N.C., Wayne Johnson and wife, Estella, of Roanoke, Va., and Randy Johnson of Cleveland, Ohio; six sisters, Sue Medellin and husband, Alberto, of Canton, Mich., Mary Riffe and husband, Robert, of Bluewell, Pam Johnson and Paula Caride of the home, Sandy Hall, Phyllis Perkins and husband, Larry, all of Hensley; and a long time best friend, Charlie Brooks of Davy.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012 at 11 a.m. from the Fanning Funeral Home Chapel in Welch with the Reverend Carl Cline officiating. Following the services he will be laid to rest beside his parents at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton. Military graveside honors will be conducted by the Iaeger VFW Post 1144 and Bradshaw American Legion Post 175.

Friends may call Friday, Nov. 16, 2012 at the funeral home, from 6 to 9 p.m.

Pallbearers will be nephews and friends.     

Fanning Funeral Home of Welch is serving the Johnson family.
