BLUEFIELD, Va. — Kay Frances Bishop, 68, of 305 Skyline Dr., Bluefield, Va., died Thursday, Dec. 27, 2007 at the home of her daughter in Bluefield, Va.
She was born in Bradford, Pa., and was a daughter of the late Mr. & Mrs. Harold H. Buchanan.
She was a member of the First Pentecostal Holiness Church in Bluefield.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, James Leroy Buchanan and Harold H. Buchanan, Jr.
She is survived by her husband, Roy Cecil Bishop, Sr.; daughter, Melinda Kay Halsey and husband, Jimmy of Bluefield, Va.; sons, Raymond E. Bishop of Mt. Airy, N.C., Roy C. Bishop, Jr., and wife Loretta of Bluefield, Thomas L. Bishop of the home; stepdaughter, Trinna Watson of Bluefield; brothers, Tim Buchanan and wife Nina of Gloucester, Va., Dick Buchanan and wife, Pam of Cobbs Creek, Va.; sisters, Babe Perham of Bluefield, Va., Edie Mercer of Bluefield, Va.; eight grandchildren and several great-grandchildren, special friends, Mary Woods and Joe and Pat.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, Dec. 30, 2007 at 2 p.m. at the Dudley Memorial Chapel in Bluefield, Va., with Pastor Larry Roberts officiating. Burial will follow in the Grandview Memory Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Jimmy Halsey, Jr., Joshua Halsey, Harry Watson, Steven Watson, Jeff Halsey and Jeff Halsey, Jr.

Francis X. Bridgett
BLUEFIELD, Va. — Francis X. Bridgett, 81, 412 Tazewell Ave., Bluefield, Va., died Wednesday, December 26, 2007 at Bluefield Regional Medical Center, Bluefield.
Born in Washington, D.C., he was the son of the late Louis and Myrtle Langley Bridgett. He retired from the Bell Telephone Company where he assembled telephone booths. He was a veteran of World War II.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Nellie Mae Costella Bridgett; one son, David; five brothers and one sister.
Survivors: one son, James Bridgett, Crofton, Md.; two daughters, Linda Boyd, Bluefield, Va., and Nancy Kellum, Bluefield; two sisters, Doris Young, Lake Worth, Fla., and June Snellings, Waldorf, Md.; five granddaughters and one grandson, four great-granddaughters and four great-grandsons.
Following Mr. Bridgett's wishes, his body will be cremated and a private interment will be held at a later date.

Mrs. Margaret O. Taylor Green
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Mrs. Margaret O. Taylor Green, 92, of Columbus, Ohio, formerly of Anawalt and Franklin County, Va., died Dec. 23, 2007.
She was born June 15, 1917 to John and Ollie Taylor, Franklin County, Va., She was a homemaker and did domestic work in her younger days. She was married to the former Posia Green. A member of Chestnut Grove Baptist Church, Writz, Va.
Preceded by parents, John and Ollie Taylor; four brothers, Harry Seabolt, Joe Harvey, Lloyd and Herbert Taylor; three sisters, Nannie Lipscomb, Gertrude Martin and Beulah Hylton; two sons, Joe Louis and Posey Green, Jr.
To this union six children, Elder Virginia Rucker (Leonard), Princeton, Ann Brown (George) Anawalt, Mary Jo Adams, Francis Montgomery (Robert) Columbus, Ohio; one son, Ben Green, Columbus, Ohio; stepson, Troy McGill, Washington, D.C.; 21 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren, 19 great-great-grandchildren, three sisters, Sally Washington, Washington, D.C., Ruby Hagwood and Victoria Taylor, both of Bassett, Va.; three brothers, James Taylor (Mac), Piedale, Va., Mack Taylor (Aucdrey), Mt. Vernon, N.Y., and Randolp Taylor, Jamacia, N.Y.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Bethel United Holy Church (UHC), Anawalt. Officiating Bishop Alvester McConnell and Elder Marquinta Cox.

Burial will follow Sunday at noon at Carver Memorial Gardens, Martinville, Va.

Madeline S. Ramsey
PETERSTOWN — Madeline S. Ramsey, 86, of Peterstown, passed away Wednesday December 26, 2007 at her residence.
Born October 25, 1921 at Alderson, she was the daughter of the late Oscar and Mae Thomas Still. Madeline was involved with the local 4-H clubs and was a member of the Peterstown Missionary Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by three brothers, Harry, Elden, and Orland Still; and two sisters, Faye Withrow and Anamae Hedrick.
Survivors include her loving husband of 67 years, Cecil Ramsey; two sons, Thomas B. Ramsey of Lansing, Mich., Ronald L. Ramsey and wife Nancy of Eaton Rapids, Mich.; one granddaughter, Amy D. Ide and husband Jason of Morrice, Mich.; and two grandsons; Terrance and Michael.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 29, 2007 at Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Jonathan Jennings officiating. Burial will follow at the Greenbrier Memorial Gardens, Lewisburg.

Aaron Michael Redmond
CEDAR BLUFF, Va. — Aaron Michael Redmond, 19, of Cedar Bluff, Va., passed away Thursday, December 27, 2007 in a Buchanan County Hospital.
Aaron was born in Richlands, Va., and was the son of Walter and Pauline Kelly Redmond, both Tazewell County natives. He was a graduate of the Richlands High School Class of 2006; he enjoyed traveling and seeing new places, riding 4-wheelers, hunting, fishing and coin collecting. He was an employee of Gasco Well Drilling and was a lifetime resident of the Tazewell County area.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Deedy Kelly; paternal grandparents, Harold and Loretta Redmond.
Those who survive him in addition to his parents are: brother: Walter Jacob “Jake” Redmond and wife Ashley of Paintlick, Va.; niece: Keila Redmond of Paintlick, Va.; maternal grandmother: Edna Kelly of Pilgrims Knob, Va.; girlfriend: Tasha Rife of Hurley, Va. He is survived by several aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends. He will be truly missed by everyone who knew and loved him.
Funeral services for Aaron Michael Redmond will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 27, 2007 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home Chapel in Richlands, Va., with the Rev. Claudie Throgmartin officiating. Interment will follow at the Hankins Cemetery in Richlands, Va.

RURAL HALL, N.C. — Darrel Lee Roark, 69, P.O. Box 1038, a resident of Rural Hall, N.C., since 1965, died Wednesday, December 26, 2007 in Winston-Salem, N.C.
Born in Jenkinjones, he was the son of the late Lundy Roark and Pansy Mitchem Roark. He was retired from AC Reynolds Garage where he worked as a mechanic.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 36 years, Eleanor Roark; and their son, Jeffrey Leland Roark.
Survivors: two daughters: Rosemary Roark Ireland, Greensboro, N.C., and Polly Roark, King, N.C.; four grandchildren: Taylor Kirby, Courtney Fair and Megan and Cameron Ireland; one stepdaughter: Judy Hawkins Freeman, Farmington, N.M., one sister, Goldie Hamm of Abbs Valley, Va.; several nieces and nephews.

Gaston Spangler, Jr.
CHARLESTON — Gaston Spangler, Jr., 89, of Charleston, formerly of Ballard, passed away Thursday December 27, 2007 at Charleston Area Medical Center, Charleston.
Born January 27, 1918 at Ballard, he was the son of the late Gaston P. and Blanche R. Dunn Spangler. Mr. Spangler was a retired truck driver having worked for both Bell Lines and Smith Transfer. He enjoyed hunting and was also a member of the Morris Memorial United Methodist Church in Kanawha City.
Survivors include his loving wife, Thelma Stepp Spangler; four sons, retired U.S. Navy Captain, Ralph G. Spangler and wife Jewel of Peterstown, Donald Spangler and wife Louise of Union, Bennie Spangler and wife Brenda of Lewisburg, Jerry Spangler and wife Tammy of Ballard; five daughters, Agnes Caldwell of Union, Anna Jean McCraw of Ballard, Evelyn Dunn and husband Carl of Ballard, Eleanor Miller and husband Richard of Ballard, Brenda Mann and husband Robert of Greenville; one sister, Nellie Mann of Peterstown; 13 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Wayne M. Turpin
THORPE — Wayne M. Turpin, 63, of Thorpe, died on Thursday, December 27, 2008 in a Martinsville, Va., hospital.
Born on August 8, 1944 in Kimball, he was a son of Bertha Church Turpin of Gary, and the late King Turpin. He had been a resident of Thorpe for one year and attended the Church of God in Welch. He was a retired press operator with 42 years of service for the Roppe Corp. in Fostoria, Ohio.
In addition to father he was preceded in death by one son, Wayne M. Turpin, Jr.; one brother, Jack Turpin; and one sister, Virginia Burks.
Survivors include: wife of 43 years: Joyce Palmer Turpin of Thorpe; five brothers: James Turpin of Princeton, Robert Turpin of Bergoon, Ohio, Melvin Turpin of Skygusty, Doug Turpin of Fostoria, Ohio, Roger Turpin of Kansas, Ohio; six sisters: Pauline Davis of Ridgeway, Ohio, Katherine Graham of Kansas, Ohio, Alice Hatfield of Elbert, Teresa Turpin of Gibsonburg, Ohio, Linda Holcomb of Ashland, Ohio, Sandra Young of Alabama.
