Deaths

Ethel Marie Jennings Davidson, 79, of 615 Hatcher St., Princeton, died Sunday, Jan. 14, 2007, at her home. Arrangements are incomplete at Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton.

Anthony Dotson Sr., 82, of Iaeger, died Friday, Jan. 12, 2007, at Bowers Hospice House in Beckley. Mounts Funeral Home of Gilbert is in charge of arrangements.

Pete Elwood Poindexter, 33, of 901 Mount Olive Road, Rock, died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2007, as a result of a coal mining accident in Cucumber. Arrangements are incomplete at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell.

James Davis “Butch” Thomas, 47, of 1125 Tip Top Rd., North Tazewell, VA 24630, died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2007, in Cucumber. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Rodriguez Pocahontas Funeral Home in Pocahontas, Va.

Rose M. “Mop” Bosley

BRONX, N.Y. — Rose M. “Mop” Bosley, 57, of Bronx, N.Y., formerly of Keystone, went to be with her Heavenly Father Wednesday morning, Jan. 10, 2007, at Our Lady of Mercy Hospital after a long illness.

Born May 26, 1949 in Keystone, she was the daughter of George H. Harris Sr. and the late Marie P. Harris. She attended Eckman Elementary, Kimball Junior High, Northfork High and Salem High School in Salem, Va. where she graduated in 1968. She pursued a career in nursing in the early 1970s in New York City and in the late 1970s at Welch Memorial Hospital. She was a resident of Keystone for most of her life, but resided in Bronx for the past two and a half years. She was a member of Midway Shiloh Temple in Keystone.

In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her husband, George W. Bosley; one son, John “Bam” Harris Sr.; and one brother, George H. Harris Jr.

She leaves to mourn her passing her father; one son, John Bam Harris II; five brothers, Steve Harris and wife Joyce of Yonkers, N.Y., Daniel E. Harris and wife Odessa of Durham, N.C., Randolph Harris and wife Maria of Newark, Del., Timothy Harris and wife Yvette of Beauford, S.C., and Daniel L. Harris and wife Diedra of Norfolk, Va.; four sisters, Gladys Martin of Keystone, Marion Harris of Yonkers, Maxine Kelly and husband Rick of Largo, Md., Denise Harris of Keystone, and sister-in-law, Marie M. Harris of Princeton; several nieces and nephews; a very special niece, Margie “Rudy” Ware of Charlotte, N.C.; a beloved grand nephew, Rasavn Lemons of Charlotte; a beloved grand niece, Tyavana Harris of Yonkers; and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, Jan. 16, at 1 p.m. from Midway Shiloh Temple Church of Keystone with the Rev. John Hale officiating. Entombment will follow at Restlawn Memorial Gardens on Littlesburg Road in Bluewell.

Richardson Funeral Home of Bluefield is in charge of arrangements.

Marilyn “Mina” Williams Burnett

BLUEFIELD — Marilyn “Mina” Williams Burnett, 82, of Route 2 (Old Princeton Road), Bluefield, died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2007, at GlenWood Park Retirement Village in Princeton.

Born Aug. 13, 1924 in Radford, Va., she was the daughter of the late Robert Frye Williams and Lena Fisher Williams. Mrs. Burnett was a homemaker and was a member of Midway Church of Christ.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Willard Burnett; one daughter, Linda Hoops; and one brother, Robert F. Williams Jr.

Survivors include two sons, Gary Burnett of the home, and Douglas Burnett and his wife Debbie of Bluefield; one sister, Elta Price of Bluefield; sister-in-law, Margaret Williams of Bluefield; four grandchildren, Lisa Hamacher of Illinois, Charles Ratcliffe of Bluefield, Teresa Castle and her husband Rick of Bluefield, and Misty French of Bluefield; four great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild; several nieces and nephews; and one special nephew, Robert Cregger.

Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2007, at 1 p.m. from Mercer Funeral Home Chapel with Minister Dan Webb and Pastor Hurley Shortt officiating.

Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton where family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home today, Jan. 15, from 6 until 8 p.m.

Mrs. Ruby M. Collier

BAPTIST VALLEY, Va. — Mrs. Ruby M. Collier, 89, of the Earls Branch section of Baptist Valley, our beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend to all, passed away quietly on Saturday, Jan. 13, 2007. She has gone on to the care of our Heavenly Father and to her own much missed mother. She was a joy to know and words cannot express our immense sadness and broken hearts.

Ruby was born on Sept. 8, 1917, the eldest daughter of the late Thomas and Sallie Harrison. She was also preceded in death by her oldest daughter, Nola Asbury; her grandson, Charles David Asbury; her first husband, Jack Deskins; her late husband, Elijah Collier; brothers, Lawrence, Allen, Glen and Willis Harrison; sisters, Ethel Beavers and Lucille Gillespie.

Survivors include daughters, Shirley (Jim) Rose of Raven, Va., Katherine Woolson of the home, Bette Collier of North Tazewell, Va., Brenda (Thomas) Sparks of North Tazewell, and Linda (Glenn) Ward of Pearisburg, Va.; one son, William (Sylvia) Collier of Bristol, Va.; sisters include Willetta Simpson of Cedar Bluff, Va., Sarah Cochran of Pounding Mill, Va., and Mozella (Floyd) Vandyke of Orlando, Fla.; 12 wonderful grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren are also included.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2007, at Singleton Funeral Service Chapel in Cedar Bluff with Mr. Michael Cochran officiating. Burial will follow in Harrison Family Cemetery at Earls Branch, Va.

Mother was an inspiration to all who knew and loved her. She lived her life quietly, but she truly loved life and she dearly loved her family. What a tribute from a beautiful spirited woman.

Pallbearers will be Thomas Sparks, Glenn Ward, William Collier, Matthew Brooks, Freddie Tatum and Michael Baldwin.

The family will receive friends at Singleton Funeral Service in Cedar Bluff from 6-9 p.m. today.

James O. Jefferson

PRINCETON — James O. Jefferson, 81, of Princeton, passed away Saturday, Jan. 13, 2007, at Veterans Administration Medical Center, Beckley.

Graveside services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2007, at Oaklawn Memorial Park, Huntington.

He was born July 19, 1925 in Cabell County, a son of the late Ostace James and Margaret Ellen Hart Jefferson.

He is survived by his wife, Patsy McCoy Jefferson; one daughter, Margaret Ann Moore of Barboursville, Va.; five grandchildren; three sisters, Louise Priest of Washington Court House, Ohio, Anna Elizabeth Cazad of Huntington, and Amelia Roberts of Roswell, N.M.; one brother, Martin Jefferson of Canaan Valley.

There will be no visitation. Wallace Funeral Home, Barboursville, is in charge of arrangements.

Charles Edward “Slim” Wilson Sr.

PRINCETON — Charles Edward “Slim” Wilson Sr., 78, of 157 Pisgah Lane, Princeton, formerly of Northfork, went to be with his Lord and Savior early Friday morning, Jan. 12, 2007, at Princeton Community Hospital.

Born June 27, 1928 at Jenkinjones, he was the son of the late David Shelton Wilson and Emma Duvall Wilson Buchanan.

Slim was a retired Continuous Mine Operator for Eastern Associates Keystone No. 1 Mines for over 36 years. He was a member of U.M.W.A. Local No. 6196 Keystone. Slim was a member of Princeton Church of God.

Mr. Wilson was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother, he loved his family and his Lord. Slim always wore a smile on his face, and if you would ask him how he was doing, he would reply, “feeling like a 16 year old boy.”

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Drema Sue Wilson, a sister, Rosemary, and two brothers, John and R.J.

Survivors include his loving and caring wife of 60 years, Ruby Fisher Wilson; children and their spouses, Rev. Charles E. and Carolyn Wilson of Canvas, Gloria Jean and Mickey Wheeler of LaPlata, Md., Bertha Louise and Douglas Hess of Princeton, Richard Wayne and Sandi Wilson Sr. of Princeton, S.Sgt. Ronald S. and Alexandra Wilson of Brussels, Belgium; nine grandchildren; three great grandchildren with a set of twins to be born in two weeks; sisters, Ludema Potts of Atlanta, Ga., Virginia Nappi of Ashtabula, Ohio; a host of nephews and nieces.

We will celebrate the homegoing for Charles “Slim” Wilson Sr. at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2007, from the Burns Wornal Chapel of Memorial Funeral Directory on Athens Road in Princeton with Pastors Derek Wilson, Stella Falvo and Fred Farley officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens on Courthouse Road in Princeton.
