Lola Mae Owens Clevinger, 81, of Maxie, Va., died Sunday, March 26, 2006 at Wellmont Bristol Regional Medical Center, Bristol, Tenn. following an extended illness. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the New Hope Christian Church with burial to follow in Mountain Valley Memorial Park, Big Rock, Va. Betty Ann Rainey, 46, of North Tazewell, Va., died Sunday, March 26, 2006 at her home. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Peery & St.Clair Funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell, Va. Burial will follow at Maplewood Cemetery, Tazewell. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service on Friday.

Lorraine Ramsey, 85, of 1004 College Ave., Bluefield, died Monday, March 27, 2006 at Nelson Nursing Home in Princeton. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home, Bluewell.

Sarah “Sis” Harris Chapman

CHILHOWIE, Va. — Sarah "Sis" Harris Chapman, 92, passed away Sunday, March 26, 2006 at Holston Valley Medical Center.

She was a lifelong resident of Smyth County, Va., and a dedicated and faithful member of the First Church of God, Chilhowie. Mrs. Chapman was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Graham Chapman.

Survivors include: One daughter: Mary Smith and husband Tom of Chilhowie; one son: Bill Bise and wife Betty of Chilhowie; four grandchildren: Songia Widener and husband Andy of Chilhowie, Doug Bise and wife Rachel of Chilhowie, Betsy Meade and husband Mike of Chilhowie, David Bise of Independence, Va.; five great-grandchildren: Leigh Ann Adams and husband Vincent, Cody Sturgill and wife Ruth, Brook Martin and husband Derrek, Kasie Bise, Daniel Bise; four great-great-grandchildren: Heidi Adams, Harper Adams, Titus Martin and Ian Sturgill

A service in celebration of Mrs. Chapman's life will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon, March 29, 2006 at the Chilhowie First Church of God, with the Rev. Bobby Dunn, the Rev. Gene Little and the Rev. Cody Sturgill officiating. The burial will follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Saltville, Va.

The family will receive friends today, March 28, 2006, from 6-9 p.m. at the Chilhowie First Church of God.

Lorene Druggish

RAYSAL — Lorene Druggish, 83 , of Raysal, went to be with the Lord early Sunday morning, March 26, 2006 following a long illness at her home in Raysal surrounded by her family and friends.

Mrs. Druggish was born Lorene Frances Beavers on Nov. 22, 1922 in Hartwell. She was the daughter of the late Robert L. and Melissa Altizer Beavers. She was a homemaker, a loving and wonderful Mom, Momaw and friend, and was affiliated with the Bradshaw Church of God. She touched her family's life in such a special way. She will be deeply missed.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Millie Druggish; three brothers, Virgil, J.C. and Jr. Beavers and one sister, Boots Ball.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Donna Sue and Merle Puckett of Raysal, with whom she made her home for the past several years; her son, Robert “Bobby” Druggish of Tazewell, Va.; her granddaughter, Christy “Miss Tina” Puckett of Raysal; her sister, Phyllis Belcher of Premier; and three special granddaughters, Brittany, Stacy, and Hannah Puckett all of Raysal.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 29, 2006 with the Reverend Ruford Abner officiating at the chapel of Fanning Funeral Home in Iaeger. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens at Princeton.

Wesley Puckett, Robbie Collins, Roy Payne, Johnny Blankenship, Hammy Addair, and Allen Mayberry will serve as pallbearers.

Friends may call at the funeral home, today, March 28, 2006 from 6 until 9 p.m.

Agnes Virginia Nunley Greer

MARION, Va. — Agnes Virginia Nunley Greer, 67, died Monday, March 27, 2006 at Wythe County Community Hospital.

She was preceded in death by her father, Alden Doak Nunley and her mother, Ella Jane Nunley of Horsepen, Va.; two brothers-in-law, Earl Greer and Kelly Hall and three sisters-in-law, Allie Jane Greer, Bessie Williams and Jessie Smith.

She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Hilton L. Greer Jr. of Marion; one daughter and son-in-law, Patty and Bradley Davidson of Atkins, Va.; one granddaughter, Ashley Davidson and two grandsons, Benjamin Davidson and Adam Davidson all of Atkins; two brothers, Claude Nunley of Sparta, N.C. and James Nunley of Claypool Hill, Va.; three sisters, Betty Maines of Abbs Valley, Va., Marie Thompson and Wilma Hall both of Marion; two aunts, one uncle, several nieces and nephews and a host of friends also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 29, 2006 at Marion Baptist Church with the Rev. Mark Ross and the Rev. Mike Sage officiating. Entombment will follow in Rose Lawn Cemetery Mausoleum in Marion.

The family will receive friends today from 7 until 9 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel in Marion.

Jewell A. Pennington

BLUEFIELD — Jewell A. Pennington, 84, of Route 5, Box 366-A, Bluefield, passed away Sunday, March 26, 2006 at her residence.

She was born Feb. 21, 1922 in McDowell to the late James M. Draper and Edith Easter Draper. She was a graduate of Northfork High School and National College of Business. She was a resident of Bluewell for the past 54 years and a member of the Bluewell United Methodist Church. She was a former employee of the Welch Courthouse and Mercer County Board of Education.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dayton L. Pennington.

Left to cherish her memories are: Daughter: Carolyn Taylor of Brushfork; son: Fred Pennington and wife Elaine of Huntersville, N.C.; sister: Geneva Cochran and husband George of Kentucky; five granddaughters: Veronica, Lisa, Rhonda and husband Josh, Kim and husband Robbie, Melissa and husband John; one grandson: Kevin; nine great grandchildren: Jeffrey, Robert, Madison, Garrett, Brionna, Kensleigh, Jacob, Mikah and Olivia; special neighbors: Fonda and Lisa.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, March 30, 2006 at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell with the Rev. D. Homer Stewart and the Rev. Sam Cale III officiating the service. Burial will follow at the Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Princeton.

Friends and family may call at the funeral home on Wednesday, March 29, 2006 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Gracie Bostic Pickett

SPRINGFIELD, S.C. — Gracie Bostic Pickett, 75, of Springfield, formerly of Horsepen and Abbs Valley, Va., went to be with the Lord Sunday, March 26, 2006 at her home.

Born Aug. 6, 1930 at Horsepen, Va., she was a daughter of the late Davis and Minnie Bostic. She grew up in Abbs Valley, Va. After living in Ohio for 31 years, she made her home in South Carolina.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four half brothers and four half sisters.

Survivors include her husband, William J. Pickett; three daughters, Delores Pickett of South Carolina, Elaine Pyott and husband, Bradley of Tazewell, Va., and Vivian Cilona of Ohio; four sons, Roger Pickett of Louisiana, Glenn Pickett and Larry Pickett both of Ohio, and David Pickett of South Carolina; two sisters, Hazel Shumate of Abbs Valley and Thelma Bostic of Bluefield; two brothers, Herman Bostic and wife, Wanda of Baptist Valley, Va. and Willard Bostic and wife, Dorothy of Wasilla, Alaska and Abbs Valley; 10 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 29, 2006 at Peery & St.Clair Funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell, Va. with the Rev. Larry Ramey officiating. Burial will follow at Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, Va.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. today, March 28, 2006.

Miss JoAnn Surway

BLUEFIELD — Miss JoAnn Surway, 66, of Route 4, Bluefield, passed away on Saturday, March 25, 2006 at Bluefield Regional Medical Center, Bluefield.

She was born on July 30, 1939 in Elkhorn, to the late Pete and Elsie Underwood Surway. She attended Mercer County Schools and was a lover of animals.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three half-brothers, Pete, Paul and Mike Surway.

She is survived by her nieces, Sharon Baldwin of Bluewell and Melinda Angles of Tazewell, Va.; a great-niece, Monica Baldwin of Beckley; a great-nephew, Stuart Angles of Salisbury, N.C.; and several cousins, special friends and neighbors whom she enjoyed spending time and talking with.

Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. today, March 28, 2006 at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell with the Rev. Wanda Coe and the Rev. James Coe officiating the service. Burial will be held at the Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Bluewell at a later time.

Dora Syble Taylor

BLUEFIELD, Va. — Dora Syble Taylor, 79, of 2850 Abbs Valley Road, Bluefield, Va. (Abbs Valley), died Sunday, March 26, 2006 at Tazewell Community Hospital.

Born in Springton, she was the daughter of the late William Estel Burgess and Mamie Lester Burgess.

She belonged to and was very active in the United Methodist Women’s Conference, Lake Junalaska, Tenn., Holston Valley Children’s Home, Virginia Black Lung Association, past treasurer United Methodist Women’s of Abbs Valley, member of the I.L.G.W.U. and an employee of 32 years with Maidenform in Princeton. She supported and was active with Pocahontas Christian Action Center and 945 Rescue. Syble and “Pug” loved to travel.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five brothers, Carl Burgess, John Burgess, George Boyd, James Oliver Burgess and Claude Boyd; two sisters, Mary Ratliff and Sherline Strong.

She is survived by her husband, Greever “Pug” Taylor and one daughter, Jeanie and husband Coy Dickens of Abbs Valley; one granddaughter, Linda Bailey and husband Tom of Abbs Valley; one brother, William H. Burgess and wife Octa of Gahnna, Ohio; two sisters, Adena Williams and husband Roy of Abbs Valley, and Grace Hope Mabe and husband Bobby of Orient, Ohio; numerous nieces and nephews, and a beloved caregiver, Diana Wright.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 29, 2006 at Christ First United Methodist Church, Abbs Valley, Va. with the Rev. Carlos Hess and the Rev. Tony Ramsey officiating. Burial will follow at Grandview Memory Gardens, Bluefield, Va.

Friends may call from 6-9 p.m. today, March 28, 2006 at the Rodriguez Pocahontas Funeral Home, Pocahontas, Va.

Pallbearers will be family and friends.
