BLUEFIELD —
Carlyle S. “Bud” Bolen Jr., of Bluefield, died Tuesday Jan. 29, 2013.
Born May 25, 1930 in Bluefield, he was a son of the late Elizabeth Cole and Carlyle S. Bolen Sr. He attended schools in Welch and Beckley, and was a 1952 graduate of Virginia Polytechnic Institute (Virginia Tech).
He was a former president and general manager of Cole Baking Company where he worked for 40 years. He was twice president of the West Virginia Bakers Association and a former board member of the Independent Baker's Association, Washington, D.C. He was past vice president of The Bluefield Sales Executive Club, a former charter member of the Fincastle Country Club, The Greater Bluefield Jaycees, The Bluefield Kiwanis Club, and The Charleston Exchange Club.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Pachuta Bolen.
Survivors include three daughters, Catherine M. Bolen of Bedford, Va., Maria Bolen Pochick and husband Frank of Bluefield, Va. and Patricia S. Bolen of Bluefield; one son, C. Scott Bolen III of Savannah, Ga.; one sister, Elizabeth B. Courtney and husband Richard of Cary, N.C.; grandsons, Craig Hickman and wife Luciana and Aaron Hickman and wife Tracee, all of Savannah; and three great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted today (Friday), Feb. 1, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Celebrant Father Paul Wharton.
Burial will follow at Monte Vista Park Cemetery where Craig Hickman, Aaron Hickman, Bruce Barilla, Tullio Ramello, Bill Courtney, Sam Comer, Bill Spracher and Greg Tomchin will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Keith Pochick, Dr. Mike Malamisura, Dr. Richard Bolen, Harry Gray, Dr. Harold Goforth Jr., Frank Melvin, Barry Turpin and Jack Garrison.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church 1003 Wyoming Street, Bluefield, WV 24701.
