GREEN VALLEY —
Phillip "John" Lawless, of Green Valley, W.Va., passed away Saturday, January 26, 2013 at his home. Born April 30, 1933 at Hemphill, W.Va., son of Pearl Jane Dove Lawless and the late Phillip "Buster" Lawless.
John attended Welch High School and was an excellent softball pitcher. He joined the United States Marine Corps and served for 4 years. After returning he was employed at Nasau Coal Blackwolf and Gary. He also worked as fire boss for Cannelton Coal Company in Welch. Later he enjoyed working on the farm in Princeton.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his son, John Houston Lawless and one brother, Robert "Bob" Lawless.
Along with his mother, left to cherish his memory is his: Wife of 54 years, Lois M. Cox Lawless of the home; two sons: Clovis B. Lawless and wife Lisa of Shady Spring, W.Va., Phillip Joe Lawless of Bluefield, W.Va.; one daughter: Donna Gadd and husband Cy of Bluefield, W.Va.; three brothers: James Lawless and wife Violet of Pennsylvania, Michael Joe Lawless and wife Lana of Tennessee, David Lawless of Princeton, W.Va.; two sisters: Margaret McCormick and Deborah Lawless Cole both of Princeton, W.Va. His nine grandchildren whom he loved very much: Jessie, Dustin, Tesla, Chris, Cody, Stormy, Mikie, Brennan, and Camryn and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 30, 2013 at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell, WV at 1:00 p.m. with the Rev. Wallace Smith officiating the service. Burial will follow at Monte Vista Cemetery in Bluefield, W.Va. where grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Friends and family may call at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell, W.Va. on Tuesday, January 29, 2013 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
