TAZEWELL, Va. —
Ellen Wheeler Van Dyke, age 71, of Tazewell, Va., died Friday, January 25, 2013 at her home. Born May 7, 1941 at Liberty, Va., she was a daughter of the late Charlie T. and Virginia Mae Bailey Wheeler.
She was a member of Pisgah United Methodist Church in Tazewell, Va. After high school, Ellen was first employed with the former General Instrument Corporation; from there she worked over twenty years with Tazewell County Department of Social Services. She then became administrative assistant to the Commissioner of Accounts for Tazewell County, a position which she held for over twenty years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Betty Angles.
She is survived by two daughters, Deborah Ellen Pickett of Tazewell, Va. and Angela Sue Smith and husband, Barry of Dallas, Ga. and their father, Jimmy Ray Van Dyke of Lake Panasoffkee, Fla.; one sister, Phyllis Davidson and husband, Ronald of North Tazewell, Va.; one granddaughter, Brandi Meadows and husband, Hamilton and great-granddaughter, Eliana Meadows all of Dallas, Ga.; brother-in-law, Jack Angles of Tazewell, Va.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at Peery & St. Clair Funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell, Va. with the Reverend Dr. Thomas A. Conley and Mrs. Linda Hale officiating. Burial will follow at Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, Va. Pallbearers will be Jimmy Davidson, Danny Whitt, Roger Whitt, Ricky McCann, Steve Whitt, and Matthew Ray.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-9 p.m. Monday, January 28, 2013.
