Cora Pomphrey Crowe, 91, of The Havens in Princeton died Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013 at Princeton Community Hospital. Born Nov. 9, 1921 in Pickaway, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence Pomphrey and Ella Elmore Pomphrey.
She was a 1940 graduate of Union High School. Cora was a clerk for the Selective Service during World War II and was a secretary for the Monroe County superintendent of schools prior to moving to Princeton in 1960 where she quickly became active in her church and community. She never met a stranger and her quick wit and beautiful smile made her many friends throughout the years. Cora was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Princeton and was a member of the Holliday Sunday School class and the Wesleyan Guild. She enjoyed giving devotions and programs throughout the community. She was also a member of the Princeton Delphian Club, Maple Valley Homemakers Club, the Bud & Blossom Garden Club, Princeton Chapter of the AARP, and a Wednesday Bridge club. Cora served on the City of Princeton Beautification Committee, and was a member of the initial committee which established the Princeton Health and Fitness Center. She was also a former clerk for the Tuberculosis and Health Association.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Tom Pomphrey and Grover Pomphrey; and one sister, Margaret Kinder.
Survivors include her husband of sixty-three years, Clement Eugene Crowe of Princeton; one daughter, Dr. Judith Crowe Carter of Princeton; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013 at the George W. Seaver Chapel of Seaver Funeral Home in Princeton with the Rev. Scott Sears officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton. Friends may call at the funeral home from 11:30 a.m. until the service hour on Saturday.
