BURLINGTON, N.C —
Chris Bridges, 89, died on her birthday, Jan. 15, 2013 after a short illness. She was in the Hospice Home in North Carolina with family and prayers surrounding her. She had a wonderful birthday in Heaven with our Heavenly Father and her husband, Paul.
Chris was the daughter of the late Alonzo J. Morris and Maude Evans Morris of Princeton. Her sister, Joyce Hubbell of Virginia also preceded her in death.
She was born in 1924 in Gary, WV. The day after graduating from Princeton High School she left for Washington, DC where she worked for the FBI for over a year. After returning to Princeton, she worked for a short time at G.C. Murphy Company where she met her husband, Paul. They eloped and were married in Pearisburg in July of 1947. Chris worked for Dr. Goodall until Cindy was born two years later. They lived in Montgomery for a short time where Paulette was born in 1955. Chris and her family lived in Richmond, Va. for 3 years then returned “home” to West Virginia where they lived until Paul died in December of 2009. Chris was always a stay-at-home mother until age 48. She enrolled in school and chose nursing as a career. She graduated in the top five percent of her class and worked for the Mercer County Health Department for a short time and then Princeton Community Hospital until she retired at age 65. Both Paul and Christine were Charter Members of the Maranatha Baptist Church where they were both involved in numerous church activities.
Chris leaves behind two daughters, Cindy and Paulette. Cindy from Timberlake, N.C. was married to Mike Sparks and had two children, PJ and Michael. PJ Minnich gave her first great-grandchild, Will who is now 15. Michael Sparks and wife Greta gave her another great-grandchild, Conner who is three-years-old. Paulette is married to Benny Ayers now living in Myrtle Beach, S.C. They gave her two granddaughters, Ashley and Amy. Ashley Grover and her husband Brian then gave Chris her first great-granddaughter, Abigail, now seven, and then Annabeth, now six, and soon to be joined by another great-grandson, Levi Dove in February. Paulette's second daughter is Amy Christine, named after her grandmother, Chris. Gladys Meadows of Princeton is her only surviving sister.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m., Monday, Jan. 21, 2013 at the George W. Seaver Chapel of Seaver Funeral Home in Princeton with the Rev. Daniel Gunnoe officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Park Cemetery in Princeton. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. today (Sunday), Jan. 20, 2013. The family will also receive friends at the residence of Mary Jo Bridges, 103 Pikeview Drive in Princeton after the viewing on Sunday and after the church luncheon on Monday.
