MONTPELIER, Va. —
Maxine Smith Winfrey, 88, of Proffitt Farm Road in Montpelier, Va., a former resident of Princeton, died Sunday, January 6, 2013 at her residence. Born February 9, 1924 in Pembroke, Va., she was the daughter of the late Bulis Everet Smith and Irene Fisher Smith.
She was a 1943 graduate of Princeton High School. Maxine was a teller at Princeton Bank & Trust. Now known as First Community Bank, she retired from the Trust Department with over forty years service. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Princeton. Maxine was Mom, Nannie, Aunt Mack, Maxine and NiNi. She shared a very close relationship with her family and friends. She loved each one unconditionally in her own special way and her love was always returned.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of forty-one years, Paul P. Winfrey; one granddaughter, Jessica Karen Graham; and three sisters, Gayla Harrison, Mildred Arnold, and Mary Walthall.
Survivors include one son, Tim Winfrey of Sutherland, Va.; three daughters, Judy Schrage and husband Gary of Princeton, Laura Graham and husband Ken of Montpelier, Va. with whom she made her home the past seven years, and Heather Douglas and husband Richard of Columbus, Ga.; six grandchildren, Zach Schrage and wife Karen, Keith Graham and wife Jessie, Luke Schrage, Preston Winfrey, Jasmine Douglas, and Alex Douglas; and three great-grandchildren, Ryan Graham, Sophia Schrage, and Eli Schrage.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at the First Baptist Church in Princeton with Dr. David Dockery officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Park Cemetery in Princeton. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Friends may call at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the service hour on Wednesday.
