ABB’S VALLEY, Va. —
Dearl Gray Burton, 79, of Abb's Valley, Va., made his journey home after a long illness, surrounded in the comfort of his earthly home by his family, on Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012. This day was also his 56th anniversary of being married to the love of his life Janice.
Born in Hiawatha on June 26, 1933, he was the son of the late Roosevelt and Mina Harper Burton. He was one of many children and a hard worker all of his life, always making sure that his family was well provided for. Being a "family man" will be his greatest legacy and was the job that meant the most to him. He was a wonderful husband, daddy, grandpa and friend. He was always there for the ones that he loved and his willingness to help others is what made him so endeared to those who knew him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepmother Sarah, many brothers, sisters and other family.
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 56 years, Janice A. Combs Burton of the home; daughter, Ella Burton of Gary; son, William Burton of Warren, Mich.; two grandsons, B.J. Burton and wife Sarah of Gary, and Wesley Dusenburry and girlfriend Vickie Carrier (also great-grandson in heart Dylan Carrier) all of Bradshaw; three sisters, Nancy Mullins of Bay St. Louis, Miss., Geneva and husband Doug Jenkins of Princeton, and Bonnie and husband Ted Butler of Pembroke, Va.; one brother Donald Burton and wife Sue of Princeton, WV; a very special mother-in-law, Ivory M. Combs of Roanoke, Va.; mother-in-law, Blanche Peeler of Paducah, Ky.; one sister-in-law, Phyllis Richardson of Paducah, Ky.; three brother-in-laws, Wesley "Junior" Combs and wife Joyce of Elliston, Va., James Combs and wife Bertie of Thaxton, Va., and Bobby Combs and wife Martha of Roanoke, Va.; also many nieces, nephews and other family and friends; special friend and caregiver, Jessica Dixon of Pocahontas, Va.; and last but by no means least, Dearl had a very special great-granddaughter ( the little four legged and furry kind) Tinkerbell, the only little doggie that was ever allowed into his home.
Funeral services will be held today (Friday), Jan. 4, 2013 at 1 p.m. at the Rodriguez Funeral Home in Pocahontas, Va. with the Rev. Dennis Lambert officiating. Interment will follow at Grandview Cemetery in Bluefield, Va. Pallbearers will be Wesley Dusenburry, James Day, E.J. McCroskey, David Blaylock, Patrick Lambert, James Lewis and Bobby Blaylock.
