George Charles Williams Jr.

BLUEFIELD — George Charles Williams Jr., 89, of Rt. 3 Box 217A, Bluefield, W.Va., passed away Tuesday Feb. 21, 2012 at his home. Mr. Williams was born April 25, 1922 in Elkhorn, W.Va. and was a son of the late George C. and Eugenia Paine Williams. He was a member of the Deliverance Temple Church of Bluewell, had worked as a coal miner for 44 years and was U.S. Army Veteran of World War II where he earned the European African Middle Eastern Service Ribbon and the Good Conduct Medal. Mr. Williams was also a member of the UMWA and the VFW.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Goldie Osborne Williams and was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Survivors include his wife, Agnes Jean Davidson Williams of the home; three sons, Larry Williams and wife, Christine of Stafford, Va., Ralph Williams and wife, Hattie of Youngsville, N.C., Donnie Williams and wife, Pat of Mt. Airy, N.C.; three daughters, Carol Fletcher and husband, Tom of Texas, Wanda Edwards of Mt. Airy, N.C., Linda Louton and husband, Johnny of Texas; two stepsons; Anthony Brown and wife, Joyce of Maybeury, W.Va., Jeff Brown of Coaldale, W.Va.; four stepdaughters, Gwen Morris and husband, Jerry of Falls Mills, Va., Susan Hinkle and husband, Charles of Abbs Valley, Va., Vickie Perry of Bluewell, W.Va., Dana Nester and husband, Darrell of Bluewell, W.Va., 31 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren;  and special friend, Kenneth Kirby of Bluewell, W.Va.

 Funeral services for Mr. Williams will be conducted Friday Feb. 24, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend David Kirby and the Reverend David Lusk officiating. Burial will follow at the Roselawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery located in Princeton where Military Honors will be given by the West Virginia Honor Guard. Serving as Pallbearers will be grandsons. Friends may call at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home from 10:00 a.m. until time of services.
