GRUNDY, Va. —
Mr. Billy Edward Thornsbury, age 69, of Grundy, Va., passed away on Sunday, October 7, 2012 at the Clinch Valley Memorial Hospital in Richlands, Va. following a lengthy illness.
He was born on July 24, 1943 in Kentucky and was the son of the late Tommy Edward and Irene Margaret Brookes Thornsbury. He was a loving husband, father, brother and friend. Billy worked hard all of his life in the coal mines, having worked for Pittston and United Coal for over 25 years. He was an avid houndsmen and Bearhunter and loved to hunt and be in the great outdoors. Billy found great joy in living and was well known for his wonderful sense of humor.
Those who remain to carry on his spirit are: His loving wife of 48 years, Carolyn Bailey Thornsbury of Grundy, Va.; daughter, Shannon Hurley and husband Wayne of Vinton, Va.; son, Kevin Thornsbury and wife Amanda of Monterey, Va.; sister, Dolores Mullins and husband Glen of Jolo, W.Va.; brother, Bobby Thornsbury and wife Mary of Jolo, W.Va.; Caregiver and sister-in-law, Lisa Kennedy of Grundy, Va.; special young lady, Samantha Mullins-Hess of Cedar Bluff, Va.; Special friend and business partner of many years, Larry Crouse of Slate Creek, Va. He is also survived by his grand-dogs.
At the request of Billy Edward Thornsbury, no public services will be conducted on his behalf.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that a donation be made in his memory to the Slate Creek Volunteer Fire Department, 11352 Slate Creek Road, Grundy, Virginia.
