William Shawn Hendricks

BLUEFIELD — William Shawn Hendricks, 41, of Bluefield, W.Va., died Sunday, February 24, 2013 in a Bluefield hospital. Born March 5, 1971 in Bluefield, he was the son of the late William Harry and Mildred Louise Vaughn Hendricks.

Shawn was better known as “SHEIK”, “TAKER”, “BRUTUS”, or the “GREAT ONE” and was a 1990 graduate of Graham High School and was employed by PEMCO as a motor winder. Shawn loved his animals, his friends and his sports. The Oklahoma Sooners and Graham G-Men were at the top of that list. He was a master behind the grill and with his love for grilling and his love for life he would turn the Graham/Beaver football game into an event and not just a game. He will be missed by many and was loved by a lot. If you ever met or even talked to Shawn you were a friend in his mind.

In addition to his parents, Shawn was preceded in death by a cousin, Lisa Butt.

Surviving Shawn is a brother, Terry Hendricks of Bluefield, Va.; uncle, Carl Lafferty and his wife Cookie from Durham, N.C. and Martin Vaughn Jr., also of Durham, N.C.; and aunt, Barbara Butt of Columbia, S.C. In addition to his family, he is survived by special friends, Angie Tabor, Sarah Carbaugh, Anna Carbaugh, Tony Palmer, Butch Palmer, Chris Farley, John Wimmer, Rick Farris, Dwayne and Dwight Hurt, Chris Thompson, Rocky Agarwal, Billy Banks, H.T. Matthews, Ahmad Bradshaw, Scott Myers, Dennis Dillow, Jason Brooks and all the guys of the Bluefield, W.Va. police department and Chris Poole and all his friends of PEMCO.

Funeral services were held on Friday March 1, 2013 at 7 p.m. at Mercer Funeral Home with Minister Dan Webb officiating. Friends called on Friday from 4 until 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial donations be made to Mercer County Humane Society, or Graham Sports Booster in memory of Shawn.
