Linda Hodges East, 66, of Windmill Gap, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on February 23, 2013 at Bluefield Regional Medical Center.
Linda was born on June 14, 1946 in Ashland, W.Va. to the late Doug and Ruby Barker Hodges. She resided on Windmill Gap for 66 years and was a member of the Prosperity United Methodist Church where she played the piano and directed the choir for years. Linda loved her church and told everyone of the promises Jesus Christ holds.
She was a homemaker first but was employed several years with Glenwood Park Retirement Village and later with Turner Vision.
In addition to her parents, Linda was preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Rev. Jim Hyndrich.
Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 44 years: John East of the home; two daughters: Marcy East Swecker and husband Jeff of Villa Rica, Ga., Tanya East of Bluefield, W.Va.; a sister and her best friend, Sharon Hyndrich of Windmill Gap; a nephew, Doug Hyndrich and wife Lorie of Rich Creek, Va.; a niece, Joanna Hess and husband Paul of Bluefield, W.Va.
Linda loved being Nana to her two joys, Riley and Cayden, Auntie to Elizabeth Grace and Tanner who she loved dearly. Also, she loved her dear friends: Norma Johnson and Brenda Mills.
Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, February 26, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Devin Olachea and the Rev. Doug Hyndrich officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park located in Bluewell with Larry Davidson, Doug Hyndrich, Billy East, Anthony Hodges, Keith Darago, and Paul Hess serving as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends on Monday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
