BLUEFIELD, Va. —
Ewell Roscoe Templeton, age 86, of Bluefield, Va., died peacefully at his home on Sunday February 6, 2011.
Born February 9, 1924 in Roanoke, Va., he was a son of the late Dennie E. and Nettie Boze Templeton of Lynchburg, Va. and Bluefield, W.Va. He was married to Margie Walker, formerly of Holden, W.Va. He is survived by three children, Patricia G. Cecil of Tazewell, Va., R.K. Templeton of Rocky Gap, Va., and Richard W. Templeton of Waldorf, Md.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Fay W. Templeton of Bluefield, W.Va., Dennie E. Templeton of Tokyo, Japan, Bernard B. Templeton of Columbus, Ohio, and Kenneth E. Templeton of Lawrenceville, Ga.
Survivors include his wife, Margie W. Templeton of Bluefield, Va.; three children mentioned above; five grandchildren, Samuel, Isaac and Cara Cecil, and Morgyn and Adam Templeton; and two great-grandchildren, Nevaeh and Layla Cecil.
Mr. Templeton served in the U.S. Marine Corps, South Pacific during World War II and was a member of the invasion force, Tokyo Bay, August 31 to September 26, 1945. He was a graduate of Beaver High School and Marshall University serving as Vice President of the 1948-1949 Student Body and was a member of the Varsity Tennis Team. He was formerly employed as Personnel Manager with Island Creek Coal Co., American Viscose Corp., Burlington Industries Executive Offices and served as Vice President of Central Virginia Industries, Lynchburg, Va. He later served as Executive Director, Industrial Development for Tazewell County, Va., Mercer County, W.Va. and Montgomery County, Va. He retired as an Independent Industrial Consultant and served as an adjunct faculty member for New River and Southwest Virginia Community Colleges.
A memorial service will be conducted from the Mercer Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, Feb. 11, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. with the Reverend Myron Fields and Mr. Raymond Walker officiating. Following the memorial service, the family will receive friends until 4:00 p.m. Burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Va. at a later date.
