BECKLEY —
Eloise Virginia Durham Pierce, 98, of Beckley, W.Va., went home to be with the Lord on February 2, 2012.
Eloise was born April 21, 1913 in Hoges Chapel, Va. to the late Eugene H. Durham and Mattie Eleanor Williams Durham. She is preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Clarence G. Pierce. She is also preceded in death by seven siblings.
Eloise was a member of First Christian Church for more than sixty years. She was a lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 32 in Beckley. She was a past member of the Women’s Club of Beckley. Hobbies included cooking and collecting lighthouses. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchild. She retired from the American Electric Power Company after nearly 30 years of service.
She is survived by her sister, Betty Lucian Durham Brown, of California; her brother, Tommy R. Durham and spouse Jean, of Greensboro, N.C.; her son, C. Glenn Pierce II and spouse Sue of Moneta, Va.; her daughter, Carolyn Bailey of Beckley, W.Va.; grandson, Ron Bailey II and spouse Patricia of Beaver, W.Va.; granddaughters, Shannon Bailey of Beckley, W.Va., Susan Hoskins and spouse Terry of Beckley, W.Va., and Ashley Wood Conger of Huntersville, N.C.; five great -grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two devoted care givers, Carolyn Brown and Sarah Lilly; and one dear friend, Eleanor Fontana.
Services will be held Sunday, February 5, 2012 at 3 p.m. at the First Christian Church in Beckley with the Reverend Don Snyder officiating. Entombment will follow the services at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.
Family and friends may gather at the church for visitation from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., Sunday, February 5, 2012.
