BLUEFIELD — Eleanor H. Barnett, 72, of Bluefield, W.Va, passed away on March 5, 2013.
Ellie was born Eleanor Delores Hanvey in Varina, Va., on July 24, 1940, the second of four children to Earl and Ethel Hanvey. She graduated from Varina High School in 1957, and went on to earn her RBA from Bluefield State College.
Ellie was married to Walter L. Barnett on November 2, 1963. They were married for 27 years, having two children, Erin Dell Barnett in February 1967, and Walter L. Barnett, Jr. in March 1968.
Ellie worked in the Financial Aid and Business offices at Bluefield State College for over 15 years. She was an avid gardener, and enjoyed painting, crafts, and home improvement projects, showing an adept hand at furniture finishing, re-finishing, re-upholstering, and decoration. She loved animals, none more so than her two cats Fritz and Sherlock, and her dog Molly.
Ellie is survived by her son Walter; her daughter Erin; her sister Gloria E. Chandler; her brother Earl W. Hanvey Jr.; her half-brother Albert Ray Layne; her half-brother Robert Lee Layne; and other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her brother Joseph H.W. Hanvey.
Mercer Funeral Home in Bluefield, W.Va., is handling funeral arrangements. Visitation will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 9, 2013 at Mercer Funeral Home, with the funeral service set to begin at 2:00 p.m..
