Waddie Joseph “Joe” Fuda Jr.

ATHENS — Waddie Joseph “Joe” Fuda Jr., 63, of Burch Street, Athens, died suddenly Sunday evening, Oct. 21, 2012 at Princeton Community Hospital.

Born July 27, 1949, at Lashmeet, he was the son of the late Waddie Fuda and Alma Comerose Fuda.

Joe was a graduate of Matoaka High School and a member of the Matoaka Baptist Church.

Joe began his career with Appalachian Power Company in Bluefield and then went to work for Hunter, Zando, Martin and Milsted Architects in Princeton. In 1969, Joe began his career in education with the Mercer County VoTech Center where he served as the instructor for Auto/CADD for 40 years. Joe also taught night classes at Bluefield State College for many years. Joe was a very dedicated educator, he was devoted to his students, he not only challenged them but was an encourager to help them be successful in life.

In his leisure time, he enjoyed working in his flower beds, decorating and cooking. At Christmas, everyone knew where Joe lived, his Christmas decorations were seen by hundreds of those who passed by and all of the Athens community enjoyed his light show.

Joe overcame many life's challenges, he was the first reported case of Polio in Mercer County and was a cancer survivor.

Survivors include his four siblings, whom he loved very much, Mary Frances Thompson and husband Roger of Brushfork, Alma Jo Cordell and husband Jack of Princeton, Diana Fuda Billings and husband Jerry of Princeton, Jimmie Lee Fuda and wife Virginia of Lashmeet; a host of nieces and nephews.

The family has honored Joe's request, his body has been cremated.

A reception and celebration will be held on Saturday, October 27, 2012 from 1:00 until 6:00 p.m. at the home of his sister, Diana Billings, 382 Green Acres Loop, Princeton, W.Va.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate gifts made in honor of Joe's life to the March of Dimes Foundation, 3508 Stauton Avenue S.E., 2nd Floor, Charleston WV 25304.

The Honor of serving the Fuda family has been given to the Memorial Funeral Directory & Cremation Center on the Athens Road in Princeton.
