CEDAR BLUFF, Va. —
Mary Jane Shelton Short, 83, of Cedar Bluff, Va., has completed her earthly journey to enter her heavenly home on Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2012. She was born in Tazewell County, Va. and was the daughter of the late Henry A. and Ella Pearl Taylor Shelton. She was a loving mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother. Mary had spent her life caring for her family and was a member of the Raven Pentecostal Holiness Church. She was a lifetime resident of the area and will truly be missed by all who knew and loved her. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husbands, Willie E. “Bill” Short and Noah Short; son, Ervin Wayne Short; sister, Mae Silcox; four brothers, Arch, Earl, Milton and George Shelton Sr.
She is survived by her daughters, Jane Wright and husband, Ernie of Cedar Bluff, Va., Delores Ann Hardy of Richlands, Va., Pamela Sue Davis and husband, Steve of Red Ash, Va.; sons, William Edmond Short and wife, Bonnie of Richlands, Va., Calvin Eric Short and wife, Linda of Cedar Bluff, Va.; stepchildren, Eugene Short and wife, Patsy of Shortt Gap, Peery Short and wife, Shelia of Pounding Mill, Va., Benny Jo Short of Lebanon, Va., David Short of Tenn., Martha and husband, Bob of Richlands, Va.; two sisters, Florence Wissell of Tazewell, Va., Delores Stevenson of Richlands, Va. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews also survive her along with a host of family and friends.
Funeral services for Mary Short will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 24, 2012 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Va. with the Reverend Clarence Brown and the Reverend Irene Bucklen officiating. Interment will follow at the Clinch Valley Memorial Cemetery in Richlands, Va. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Friends may call from 6 - 9 p.m. on Thursday evening at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Va.
