CHUCKY, Tenn. —
Martha Louise Footo Shrader, 93, formerly of Lebanon, Virginia, passed away on Friday, November 9, 2012, at Durham-Hensley Health and Rehab Nursing Home in Chucky, Tennessee, from complications of a stroke she suffered seven years ago. Martha also lived at the Hummingbird Retirement Villa in Lebanon, Virginia, for several years where she also received praiseworthy care.
Born on January 13, 1919, in Switchback, West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Andrew and Anna Palco Footo. She graduated from Elkhorn High School in Elkhorn, W.Va., in 1936. Martha was the Postmaster at the Post Office in Switchback, and later retired from Russell Manufacturing in Lebanon.
Love of God and family were the most important things to Martha. She and her husband, Wallace Henry Shrader were active members of Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Lebanon, where they helped with the books and upkeep of the church for more than forty years. Martha was an avid bird watcher and excellent cook. Her family always looked forward to the meals shared and time spent at their home. Though Martha and Wallace lived in Lebanon for more than forty years, Martha always held the mountains of West Virginia close to her heart.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her loving husband of over sixty years, Wallace; two sons, Michael David and Mark Anthony; two grandsons, Paul David Canoy and Daniel Phillip Canoy; and siblings, Helen Bowling, Agnes Footo, Thomas Footo, Matthew Footo, Eulalia Footo and Marie Boone.
Survivors include her daughter, Teresa Shrader and husband Darrell; sons, Stephen Shrader and wife Julia and Timothy Shrader; grandchildren, Susannah Canoy Sparks and husband Harold, Dawn Marie Shrader and Bobby Bostic, Nicholas Canoy, Charles Shrader and wife Meredith, Jennifer Shrader Wolz and husband Trey, Michelle Allen and Dawn Hensley; great-grandchildren, Tyler Bostic, Dakota Hensley and Zachary Sparks; and sister, Ethel Cox.
Pallbearers will be family members, Nicholas Canoy, Charles Shrader, Harold Sparks Jr., Trey Wolz, James Boone and Greg Boone.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 15, at Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Lebanon. A graveside service will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell, West Virginia.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, November 14, from 6 to 8 p.m. with a Christian Wake Service to be held at 7:00 p.m. at Owens Funeral Service.
