Ronald Morris “Ronnie” Barr

STAFFORD, Texas — Ronald Morris “Ronnie” Barr, 65, of Stafford, Texas, a former resident of Princeton, died suddenly Monday, Feb. 6, 2012, in Princeton. Born in Princeton on Feb. 25, 1946 he was the son of the late Smith Barr and Georgia Louise Price Barr. Ron attended Mercer County Schools and was a 1964 graduate of Princeton High School where he was an excellent basketball player earning Princeton High School Player of the Year and numerous accolades on All-County, All-Area, All-Coalfield Conference and All-State teams during his athletic career. Following graduation he was recruited by numerous colleges and universities eventually choosing to play at South Texas Junior College in Houston, Texas. After completing his education Ron resided in the Houston area for many years. This past Friday, Feb. 3, 2012, Ron was inducted to the Princeton High School Hall of Fame during halftime at the Princeton-Bluefield game. He worked in electronics for several years and had been an employee of the Chick-fil-A in the Houston area this past year. On March 1, 2009 Ron lost his wife of 36 years, Rosemary Jewell Barr, after a 14 year battle with breast cancer. In addition to his parent’s and his wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Tim Barr and Mike Barr; and several aunts and uncles including the aunt he often stayed with while visiting Princeton, Nelrose Price.

Survivors include two uncles, Earl Price of Princeton, and Bernard Price and his wife, Barbara of Beckley; brother-in-law, Dana Jewel of Massachusetts; sister-in-law, Norma Barr of Princeton; three nephews, Timothy Barr of Nashville, Tenn., Kevin Barr and his fiancé Tessa Addair, Chris Barr and his wife, Andrea and their children, Emily Barr and Todd Barr all of Pipestem; and one niece, Lisa Barr Perdue and her son, David Lafferty, of Lashmeet.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, 2012, at the George W. Seaver Chapel of Seaver Funeral Home in Princeton with Dr. Dan Farley officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Park Cemetery in Princeton. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Friends may call at Seaver Funeral Home in Princeton from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday. A memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 12, 2012 at the St. Stephens Episcopal Church, 1805 West Alabama, Houston, Texas. Memorial contributions may be made to the Princeton High School Hall of Fame, c/o Princeton Senior High School, 1321 Stafford Drive, Princeton, WV 24740.
