Billie Rae Hill

DALEVILLE, Va. — After a lengthy illness, Billie Rae Hill departed this life on Saturday, Sept. 15, 2012 at her residence in Daleville, Va. Born in Princeton, W.Va. on July 21, 1935, she was the daughter of Raymond M. Hill and Mae Elizabeth Miles Hill. Her parents and a brother-in-law, Philip Pratt, preceded her in death.

She is survived by her sisters, Joyce H. Pratt and Gerri Hill, both of Roanoke. She is also survived by special cousins, Vickey and Bob French, Patricia H. Moody, all of Roanoke and Rick and Jeanie Pickwick, of Bradenton, Fla. Additionally, many friends in the Vinton, Richmond and Princeton areas survive her.

Billie Rae was a graduate of Princeton High School, class of 1953  She received a Bachelor of Science in Education degree from Concord College in 1956 and a Master of Arts degree from West Virginia University in 1966. She had been employed by school systems in Mercer County, W.Va. and Henrico County, Va. After 35 years as an educator, she retired from Fairfield Middle School in Richmond in 1994 as the Director of Guidance Services.  

Billie Rae was a member of Thrasher Memorial United Methodist Church in Vinton but had been a long time member of Kee Street United Methodist Church in Princeton.

On Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2012 from 6 until 9 p.m. the family will receive friends at Oakey's Vinton Chapel and on Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. there will be a Celebration of Billie Rae's life at Memorial Funeral Directory in Princeton, W.Va. with Pastor David Vaughan and Pastor Scott Mayberry, a longtime family friend, officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton. The family will receive friends one hour before the service on Wednesday at Memorial Funeral Directory in Princeton.
