TAZEWELL, Va. —
Dr. James H Grant Jr., 74, of Tazewell, Va., died peacefully at home on Sunday, Sept. 16, 2012. He was born May 9, 1938 in Richmond, Va. to Elsie Michaux Grant and James Henry Grant IV.
Dr. Grant was a retired Presbyterian minister serving churches in Littleton, N.C., Chatham, Va., Lexington, N.C. and Tazewell, Va. Jimmy attended St. Christopher High School in Richmond, Hampden-Sydney College, Union Theological Seminary, and earned his Doctorate of Ministry from McCormick Seminary. He served on the Committee of Ministry for the Abington Presbytery and was active in many civic and charitable organizations including Rotary Club, Four Seasons Y, Family Planning and Assessment Team, Historic Crab Orchard Museum, Retired Senior Volunteer Program, Tazewell Chamber of Commerce and A Little Child Shall Lead Them Food Pantry.
He is survived by his wife, Charlotte Thorne Grant; his daughter, Page Grant King and husband, Jak of Raleigh, N.C.; his son, James Henry Grant VI and wife, Rebecca of Charlotte, N.C.; and his brother, William Michaux Grant of Charlottesville, Va.; also surviving are grandchildren, Thorne King, Darden King, Blair King, Bo Grant and Julia Grant.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2012 at Peery & St. Clair Funeral Home in Tazewell, Va.
A memorial service will be held at noon on Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2012 at Tazewell Presbyterian Church, located at 201 Church St., Tazewell, VA 24651 with the Reverend Greg Wood officiating. Interment will be in the Thorne-Clark Cemetery in Littleton, N.C. on Sunday, Sept. 23, 2012 at 2 p.m.
