GRUNDY, Va. —
Johnny Clinton “J.C.” Grindstaff, 90 years of age, of Grundy, Va., went to be with the Lord, Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at the Wellmont-Holston Valley Medical Center, Kingsport, Tenn., following a brief illness. Born in Williamson, W.Va., he was the son of the late John Thomas and Evelyn Montgomery Grindstaff. He was a resident of Buchanan County most of his life and was a member of the Grundy Church of Christ.
J.C. served in the United States Army during World War II and received the Purple Heart. Mr. Grindstaff loved to fish and was an avid Cincinnati Reds Fan and attended the opening games for 31 straight years. He was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and was a car foreman for N&W Railroad for 42 years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Nannie Virginia Beckett Grindstaff (1997); one daughter: Terri Stacy; one infant son: Johnny Clinton Grindstaff Jr.; one sister: Edna Grindstaff Felix and one brother: Homer Thomas Grindstaff.
Mr. Grindstaff is survived by one daughter: Pam Fleming of Grundy, Va.; one son: Tommy (wife Yvonne) Grindstaff of Oakwood, Va.; two grandchildren: Tonya Lloyd of Davidson, N.C., Amy (husband Josh) Wagner of Blountville, Tenn.; two great-grandchildren: Madeline and Mason Wagner of Blountville, Tenn. Also, survived by special nieces and nephews: Mary K. (husband Glenn) Slater, Kathy (husband Todd) Johnson, George Felix and John Felix.
Funeral Services for Johnny Clinton “J.C.” Grindstaff will be conducted Friday, January 11, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel with Evg. Dennis Wimmer and Evg. Mike Rife officiating with burial to follow in Greenhills Memory Gardens, Claypool Hill, Va.
Friends may call at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel Thursday at 6:00 p.m. with services at 7:00 p.m.
Active pallbearers will be Tommy Grindstaff and the men of the Grundy Church of Christ.
Honorary pallbearers will be Arthur Woods, Frank Boyer, Gene Belcher and Louit Owens.
Full Military Rites will be conducted at the cemetery by Members of Childs Gentry Post No. 7360 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
