RAVEN, Va. —
Curtis Arms, age 77, of Raven, Virginia, passed away Tuesday, January 8, 2013 in a Bristol, Tennessee hospital following a lengthy illness.
He was born in Marvin, Virginia and was the son of the late Elihu and Vergie Honaker Arms. Curtis worked as a coal miner for 42 years. He retired as a section foreman with Pittston Coal Company. He lived all his life in the Raven, Virginia area. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother. He will be missed by all who knew him and loved him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Ricky Arms; one grandson, Anthony Kane Arms; and four brothers, Junior Arms, Tivis Arms, Darris Arms and Dallas Arms.
Those who survive him are: His wife, June Wells Arms; three sons: Gary Arms and wife, Karen of Cedar Bluff, Virginia, Tony Arms and wife, Kim of Bandy, Virginia, Craig Arms and wife, Davina of Swords Creek, Virginia; daughter-in-law, Janice Arms of Richlands, Virginia; five sisters: Mable Boyd of Raven, Virginia, Betty Deel and husband, Marcus of Pounding Mill, Virginia Dorothy Hylton and husband, Andrew of Chicago, Illinois, Wanda Richardson and husband, Don of Swords Creek, Virginia, Alice Arms of Pounding Mill, Virginia; two brothers: Ralph Arms and wife, Kay of Pounding Mill, Virginia, Tommy Arms and wife, Gaynelle of Cedar Bluff, Virginia. Eleven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren also survive along with a host of family and friends.
Funeral services for Curtis Arms will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 11, 2013 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Virginia with the Rev. Danny Altizer officiating. Interment will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Virginia. Pallbearers will be: Gary Arms, Tony Arms, Craig Arms, Jeremy Arms, Kevin Arms and Steven Arms.
A visitation will be held on Thursday evening from 6:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m. at Hurst-Scott Funeral Home, 1401 Second Street, Richlands, Virginia.
