BLUEFIELD —
James Lester Pennington, 79, of Bluefield, died Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013 at Veterans Medical Center in Beckley. Born Aug. 7, 1933 at Crumpler, he was the son of the late Hoit Lester Pennington and Nellie Jones Pennington.
He was a member of Greenview United Methodist Church in Green Valley. He served in the U. S. Navy for four years during the Korean Conflict. He was a machinist by trade. He enjoyed gardening and was associated with the Mercer County Tailgate Market in Princeton.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Jannelle Pennington.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Betty Levitt Pennington; three sons, Robert W. Pennington and wife Terri of Knightdale, N.C., Michael L. Pennington of Bluefield and Charles S. Pennington and wife Margie of Pinnacle, N.C.; three grandchildren, James Pennington and wife Jordan of Zebulon, N.C., Rhonda Charles and husband George of Raleigh, N.C. and Ronald Pennington of Pinnacle, N.C.; one great-grandson, Garrett Pennington of Zebulon, N.C.; and one sister, Phyllis Pennington Lambert and husband Wayne of Glade Springs, Va.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today, Jan. 4, 2013 at the Rowland H. Bailey Funeral Chapel of the Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton with the Rev. Christopher Gudger-Raines officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be his grandson Ronald Pennington and his great grandson Garrett Pennington.
