VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. —
Nora Mae Raines Strickland, age 83, of 5608 Ranger Court, Virginia Beach, Va., formerly of Peterstown, passed away, Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2012 at Country View Assisted Living, Peterstown. Born Nov. 15, 1929 at Newark, N.J., she was the daughter of the late James W. and Nelva Pyne Raines.
She had resided in the Virginia Beach area for most of her life. After graduating Peterstown High School in 1947 she moved to Virginia Beach, where she worked for C&P Telephone and there she met her husband Carlos Strickland. After their marriage and the birth of their sons, she became a full-time homemaker. She dearly loved Monroe County and the folks back home.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Carlos C. Strickland.
Left to cherish her memories are her oldest son, C.C. Strickland Jr. of Virginia Beach, Va.; son, Marvin Lee Strickland of Allen Park, Mich.; grandson, Raymond Wade Strickland of Virginia Beach, Va.; granddaughter, Dorothy Bennett of Virginia Beach, Va.; great-grandson, Tommy Strickland of Virginia Beach, Va.; brother, James Raines and wife Elizabeth; sisters, Shirley A. Hedrick and husband Willie, and Phyllis E. Ferguson and husband Denny all of Peterstown; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 8 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012 at the Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home Chapel, Peterstown, with the Rev. Gary Jakes officiating. Friends may call from 6 p.m. until the time of the services at the funeral home, Saturday. Burial will be 11 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012 at the Rosewood Memorial Park Cemetery, 601 N. Witchduck Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23462.
