PINEVILLE —
Tennis “Shorty” Cook Sr., 85, of Pineville, passed away Thursday, Dec. 20, 2012, in Bowers Hospice House following a long illness.
Born Oct. 27, 1927, in Pineville, he was the son of the late Morton Blaine and India Ethel Walker Cook.
Shorty was a member of Cook Memorial Baptist Church, Pineville. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed camping, reading and being with his family. During his 33-year mining career at Allied Chemical, he trained the National and State Championship Mine Rescue teams. He also retired from the West Virginia Department of Highways where he served as a store keeper.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Romeo, Raymond, Barbe, Orville and Ralph Cook; and three sisters, Ethel Ecelbarger, Jessie Parker and Mary Ann Parker.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Jeannine Parker Cook; three sons, Tennis “Pee Wee” Cook Jr. and his wife, Melody, of Rockview, David Cook and his wife, Kathy, of Teays Valley and John Cook of Frederick, Md.; one daughter, Nancy Tabor and her husband, Ralph, of Foster; five grandchildren, Stacey Lusk, Josh Cook and his wife Latisha, Lauren Cook-Childress and her husband Chris, Leslie Cook, and Natalie Cook; and three great-grandchildren, Carmen Grace Lusk, Haylee Marie Cook and Harper Nicole Cook.
A celebration of Shorty’s life will be held at 3 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012, at Calfee Funeral Service Chapel, Pineville, with the Rev. Evan Arkell officiating. Burial will follow in Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny. Pallbearers will be Wyoming County Law Enforcement and West Virginia Natural Resources Officers. Family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until time of service at the funeral home on Saturday.
