FALLS MILLS, Va. —
Carlton Crockett “Corky” Whitley, age 84, of Falls Mills, Va., passed away Saturday, December 15, 2012 at Bluefield Regional Medical Center of a stroke.
Corky was born February 23, 1928 in Bramwell, W.Va. to Marvin Crockett and Bertie Lula Whitley. He was a devoted husband of 64 years, a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He will be missed by so many, but we are assured that he is with his Lord that he served so well.
He was a member of the Falls Mills Christian Church for 70 years and brakeman and conductor for the N&W Railroad for 40 years. He was a past Master and Secretary of the Harmon 222 Masonic Lodge for over 50 years and a U.S. Navy veteran serving from 1945 to 1947.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Betty Ernest and daughter, Karen Whitley Zamberlan.
Survived by wife, Juanita Elizabeth Whitley; son, Marvin Lee Whitley of Falls Mills, Va.; daughter, Sharon Thompson of Knoxville, Tenn.; grandsons, Shane Rose of Andersonville, Tenn., Shawn Rose of Knoxville, Tenn. and David Lee Whitley of Lincoln, Neb.; great-grandchildren, Kari Elizabeth Rose and Zoey Brook Rose; sisters, Margaret Tabor and Carolyn Quesenberry of Bluefield, Va.; nephews, Randy Ernest, Donnie Tabor, Ronnie Tabor and Dwayne Quesenberry; niece, Cathy Quesenberry.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Dudley Memorial Mortuary in Bluefield, Va. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at the Falls Mills Christian Church with Pastors Rick Mathena and Jason Cole officiating.
Pallbearers will be Ernest Bowman, Butch Belcher, Jim Haines, Ryan Hunt, Jody Frazier and Todd Little. Honorary pallbearers will be Clyde Barr, Jonce Leedy, Ron Davidson, Arnold Cruey, Rev. James Bassett, Frank Mitchell, C.D. Hale and McGinnis Hale.
Corky’s farm tractor, driven by his friend Jerry Taylor, will transport the casket to Harry Cemetery for Masonic graveside services delivered by Eugene Oliver. Corky will rest facing the eastern sunrise, overlooking the railroad and waiting on the Lord’s coming.
