RAVEN, Va. —
Lloyd Calvin Robinette, age 88, of Raven, Va., departed this life for his heavenly home early Monday morning, Dec. 3, 2012 at his home with his loving family at his side. He was born July 7, 1924 in Russell County, Virginia to the late Charles Henry and Jennie Sue Compton Robinette.
Mr. Robinette was a World War II veteran, having served with the 164th Combat Engineers from 1941 to 1945. His tour of duty took him from England to France, Germany, and Austria, having landed on Normandy Beach on D-Day. He was a member of the UMWA 1760, Seaboard No. 1, a member of the American Legion of Foreign Wars, and the VFW. He attended the Claypool Hill Church of Christ until ill health.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Vernelle Horton Robinette in August 2000. He was also preceded in death by one sister, Vera Vance; four brothers, Daniel Robinette, Otis Robinette, Walter Robinette and Hassell Robinette; one grandson, Andy Lloyd Short; and one son-in-law, Larry Whitt.
Left to carry on his memory are: Five daughters: Linda Short and husband, Russell of Swords Creek, Va., Pat Reedy and husband, Bill of Raven, Va., Carolyn Reedy and husband, David of Raven, Va., Bonnie Whitt of Raven, Va., Debbie Estep and husband, Mike of Pounding Mill, Va.; four sons: Jimmy Lloyd Robinette and wife, Wanda of Cedar Bluff, Va., Bobby Gene Robinette and wife, Bonnie of Tazewell, Va., Terry Calvin Robinette and companion, Ruth of Raven, Va., Jerry Allen Robinette and wife, Connie of Raven, Va.; one brother: Guy Robinette and wife, Margie of Arlington, Va. Seventeen grandchildren, twenty-three great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren also survive along with many relatives and friends. He also leaves behind special friend to him and his family and helpful caretaker, Edna Hurt of Raven, Va.
Funeral services for Lloyd Calvin Robinette will be conducted Thursday, December 6, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Va. with the Rev. Bob Smith and the Rev. Dennis White officiating. Interment will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens Mausoleum at Claypool Hill, Va. Members of the Casey-Shortt VFW Post No. 9640 will conduct military graveside rites. Pallbearers will be grandsons: Robert Robinette, Mark Robinette, Todd Robinette, Rusty Short, Dusty Reedy, Ryan Whitt, Jeff Reedy, Hunter Short and Wyatt Robinette.
Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m.–9:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home, 1401 Second St., Richlands, Va.
