Denny LaVerne Hood Sr.

PRINCETON — Denny LaVerne Hood Sr., 81, of Washington Avenue, Princeton, died Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2012 at Princeton Community Hospital.

Born June 21, 1931, in Springfield, Ill., He was the son of the late Robert Haskell Hood and Ruby Irene VanBlaricom Hood Croy.

Before moving to Princeton, Denny worked in Pennsylvania for a number of years as an auto body repairman. Upon moving to Princeton, Denny was well known and respected as an outstanding auto body repairman. He was a member of New Hope United Methodist Church near Princeton. He was devoted to his family; he enjoyed being outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. He was an avid WVU fan. Denny was a member of the AF & AM Masonic Lodge 134 of Princeton.

While their health permitted, Denny and his wife were regular walkers at Mercer Mall.

He will be sadly missed by his loving and caring wife of 63 years, Harriett Catherine McCoy Hood of Princeton; two children, Denny LaVerne Hood Jr. and wife Rene, and Dona Hood Jones and husband Allen all of Princeton; five grandchildren, Tiffany Wohlford and husband Jay, Jody Jones, Joshua Jones, Angela Hood Hampton and Denny Hood III; great-grandchildren, Kelsey, Tanner and Jade; siblings, Vincent Dale Hood, Doris Eileen Hyatt both of Princeton; two half brothers, Bobby Hood and Barry Hood both of Springfield, Va.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012 from the Burns Wornal Chapel of the Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road in Princeton with Pastors Michael Smith and Larry Dyer officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Friends may visit with the family Saturday from noon until the service hour at the funeral home.
