BLUEFIELD, Va. —
Hobert A. Cordle, 85, of Parkview Drive, Bluefield, Va., passed away peacefully on Monday, Nov. 19, 2012, after a long illness at Westwood Health Care Center in Bluefield, Va. He was born in Prestonsburg, Ky., and was a son of the late Hobert A. Cordle and Emma Jean (Agnes) Nelson Cordle.
Hobert graduated from Logan High School in 1945, served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was honorably discharged having served in the C Troop 27th Constabulary Squadron. He was a salesman for Fairmont Foods in Williamson, W.Va., and moved to the Bluefield area in 1964. He retired from Certified Brokers.
He was a member of the Bluefield Mercer Lodge No. 85 A.F.&A.M. where he was a member for over 50 years and also was a Master Mason and York’s Cross of Honor. He also was a member of the Obrien Lodge in Williamson.
He attended the Family Worship Chapel in Bluefield, W.Va. He always loved his family and home. He was an avid fan of the Cincinnati Reds, Graham G-Men, WVU, and the Kentucky Wildcats. He loved the people in the community, his politics, talk radio, his Lodge Brothers, and his church family. Everyone who met Hobert loved him and his personality, his hats and toboggans and his charming ways.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Douglas Cordle, John Cordle and Florine Cordle Ward. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Herma Jean Minton Cordle; daughters, Cathy Thompson and husband Roger of Riner, Va., Debra Morrison and husband Paul of Princeton, W.Va.; son, Timothy Cordle and wife Terri of Williamsburg, Va.; grandchildren, Doug Thompson, Daniel Morrison, Kristen Thompson, Stacy Cordle, Kimberly Morrison, Anna Cordle, Thomas and Paul Cordle; great-grandchildren, Brandon Bailey, Emme Morrison and Lily Morrison. Also, his extended family at Westwood.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at the Dudley Memorial Chapel in Bluefield, Va. with Pastor Terry Honaker officiating. Burial will follow in the Grandview Memory Gardens. Graveside services will be conducted by the Bluefield Mercer Lodge No. 85 who will also serve as pallbearers, the Bluefield, Va. VFW Memorial Post 9696, and Pocahontas American Legion Post 14. Grandsons will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. until hour of services.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Salvation Army.
Dudley Memorial Mortuary in Bluefield, Va. is serving the Hobert A. Cordle family.
