BAPTIST VALLEY, Va. —
Alvie Damon “Screwdriver” Cochran, age 90, of Baptist Valley, Va., died Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at the home of his daughter and son-in-law. Marcia and Walter Barrett at North Tazewell, Va.
Born July 19, 1922 at Tazewell, Va., he was a son of the late Oliver Turman Cochran and Nannie Lou White Cochran. He was of the Church of God faith. Mr. Cochran was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a former Prisoner of War. He was a Purple Heart and Bronze Star Medal recipient. He was a master electrician and had worked at steel mills in Ohio, later retiring from Barnette, Inc. of Richlands, Va.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Georgia Louise Cochran; one daughter, Janice Adams; his second wife, Edith Cochran; and five brothers and sisters.
He is survived by one daughter, Marcia Barrett and husband, Walter of North Tazewell, Va.; four sons, Roger Cochran and wife, Norma of Cedar Bluff, Va., Alvin Cochran and wife, Linda of Tazewell, Va., Jerry Cochran and wife, Kathy of North Tazewell, Va. and adopted son, Cory Cochran of North Tazewell, Va.; three sisters, Ola Griffith of Baptist Valley, Va., Johnnie Allen of Harlem, Ga., and Shirley Davies of Riverview, Fla.; one brother, Dan Cochran of Danville, Ohio; eleven grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, November 18, 2012 at Peery & St. Clair Funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell, Va. with the Reverend Leon O'Quinn officiating. Burial will follow at Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, Va. where military graveside rites will be conducted by members of the Barns Beavers VFW Post No. 7136 of Tazewell, Va. Pallbearers will be James Altizer, Donnie Howery, Donnie Linkous, Calvin Linkous, Joey Rose, Johnny O'Quinn, and Brad Ward.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-9 p.m. Saturday, November 17, 2012.
