Thomas Clyde Strow

“If I had two loaves of bread, I would sell one and buy hyacinths, for they would feed my soul.”

PRINCETON — “If I had two loaves of bread, I would sell one and buy hyacinths, for they would feed my soul.”

Thomas Clyde Strow, 63, of 1005 Reynolds Avenue in Princeton, died Friday, October 05, 2012, at Charleston Area Medical Center in Charleston, W.Va. Born September 21, 1949, in Princeton, he was the son of the late Gordon Benjamin and Beatrice Ellen Farmer Strow.

Tom was a Human Anatomy, Physiology, and Science teacher at Princeton Senior High School. He formed the PSHS Travel Club and led several educational excursions to Europe with his students and their parents. His teaching career began in 1977 at the Mercer County Detention Center. He also taught at Matoaka and Glenwood schools before coming to Princeton Senior High School.

He was a 1967 graduate of Princeton High School and attended Concord University. He graduated from Bluefield State College with a B.S. degree in Education and received a Master of Education degree from Marshall University. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1969 to 1974. He formerly served on the WV Board of Occupational Therapy. He was a member of the Episcopal Church of Heavenly Rest in Princeton. Tom was an avid and knowledgeable antique collector. He was well-loved and touched many lives throughout his teaching career.

The quotes Tom recited will be forever imprinted in the minds and hearts of his family, many friends, and students: “The world is a book, and those who do not travel, read only one page.” “Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take but by the places and moments that take our breath away.”
