Charles E. “Charlie” Waddell

PRINCETON — Charles E. “Charlie” Waddell, 99, of 803 Hale Avenue in Princeton, died Saturday, December 15, 2012, at The Maples in Bluefield. Born September 19, 1913, in Beckley, he was the son of the late Allen Alexander and Cora Mae Waddell.

After moving to Princeton in 1939, Charles worked in the development and real estate business. He was an employee of the Lilly Land Company until his retirement. Many homes in the Princeton area were built and sold by Charles. He worked in all aspects of real estate, eventually operating his own office in Princeton.

Charles was a member of First United Methodist Church in Princeton. He was a 1931 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School in Beckley.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Bonnie Tolley Waddell; one son, Charles E. Waddell Jr.; and one sister, Opal Hart. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Charles is survived by his second wife, Barbara Davidson Waddell of Princeton; two nieces, Mary Kinsinger and her husband Kenneth of Ft. Myers, Fla., and Judy Lohmyer and her husband Rev. Richard Lohmyer of Alderson; one nephew, Buddy Hart and his wife Judy of Ft. Myers, Fla.; four stepchildren, Rev. James Grubb and his wife Debra of Greenville, S.C., Ronald L. Grubb and his wife Margaret of Charleston, S.C., Valerie Parks and her husband James of Claytor Lake, Va., and Michael Andrew Grubb and his wife Diana of Beckley; his caregiver, Angie Barton of Sandlick; and his closest living friend, Neil Lohr of Princeton.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 18, 2012, at the George W. Seaver Chapel of Seaver Funeral Home in Princeton with the Rev. Scott Sears officiating. Burial will follow at Monte Vista Park Cemetery in Green Valley. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Friends may call from 1:00 p.m. until the service hour Tuesday at the funeral home.
