BRAMWELL — Lewis Clifford Payne, age 85, of Maxey Road, Bramwell, W.Va., died on Thursday, December 6, 2012 at Princeton Community Hospital.

Born on October 17, 1927 in Welch, he was a son of the late Alfred and Alifar Southerland Payne. He had lived in McDowell County most of his life and had spent the last 7 years in Mercer County. He was a veteran of the Korean conflict having served in the U.S. Army. He was a retired coal miner. He was a member the F.O.P. and the VFW Bradshaw Post No. 175.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Rose Payne; son, Alfred Payne; daughter, Tina Louise Rose; a brother, Warren Coleman; and sisters, Lou Coleman, Rita Short and Thelma Stinson.

Survivors include: Sons: Ronald Rose of Spanishburg, W.Va., Larry Payne of Hensley, W.Va., James Rose of Keystone, W.Va., Jerry Payne of Princeton, W.Va., Clifford Lee Payne of Princeton, W.Va., Arnold Payne of Warriormine, W.Va., Lewis Payne of Warriormine, W.Va., Clifford Payne of Bluefield, W.Va.; daughters: Frances Underwood of North Carolina, Linda Caskey of North Carolina, Linda Payne of North Carolina, Annie Riffe of Bradshaw, W.Va., Mary Bailey of Bradshaw, W.Va.; a grandson, Ronald Rose Jr. who took care of him; great-grandson, Vernon Allen Rose Jr.; great-granddaughter, Ashland Denise Rose, as well as several other grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 12, 2012 at 12:00 noon at the Fairview Community Church in Kegley, W.Va. with the Rev. Shubert Sweeny and Louise Sweeny officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluewell. The Iaeger VFW Post No. 1144 will conduct military graveside honors. Friends may call on Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the church.
