BLUEFIELD, Va. —
Norita G. Tyson, 88, of Bluefield, Va., died Monday Dec. 3, 2012 at Westwood Center.
Born August 4, 1924, she was a daughter of Okey and Alma Gallien. She was raised on a small farm in Doddridge County with her two brothers and three sisters. She attended college and graduated from Morris Harvey University. She and her husband, John, moved to Bluefield in 1949. She taught 6th grade at Fairview School. She and her husband started a State Farm Insurance Agency. She helped build the business and worked there for 40 years.
She was very active in the community. She was a member of Lioness Auxiliary, Quota Club, and American Legion Auxiliary. She was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church for 62 years and served in many capacities.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Tyson; and one brother, William Gallien.
Survivors include her children, Susie Tyson Black and husband John Benjamin Black of Brentwood, Tenn., Vicki Tyson Bourne and husband Steve Bourne, Jr. of Bluefield, Va., and John Tyson Jr. and wife Sandy Tyson of Bluefield, Va.; brother, Okey Gallien; sisters, Edith Wilson, Hazel Wysong and Lucille Zinn; nine grandchildren, Amy Valet, Abby Neff, David Black, Ryan Bourne, Hillary Griffin, Kathleen Elswick, Scott Tyson, Jack Tyson and Joe Tyson; and eight great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at Immanuel Lutheran Church on Sunday Dec. 9, 2012 from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. A memorial service will follow at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Terry Edwards and Vicar Barbara Krumm officiating.
Private burial will take place at Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
