BLUEFIELD, Va. —
J. Glen Peery, 94, of Bluefield-Tazewell Road, Bluefield, Va. died Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2012 at Tazewell, Va. Born March 8, 1918 at Liberty, Va., he was a son of the late Walter George Peery and Vera Lee Vencill Peery. He resided in Tazewell County most of his life.
Mr. Peery retired from Betsy Ross Bakery. He was a member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church. He was one of the oldest members of the Tazewell County Farm Bureau and participated with the Tazewell County Fair with “The Old McDonald's Farm”. Mr. Peery had a great love for animals and children.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of fifty seven years, Marian Cox Peery; one grandson, James Glen White; two brothers, George C. Peery and Clarence “Flea” Peery; two sisters, Margaret Ellen Howery and Beulah Lockhart.
He is survived by five children, Gene and Gail Peery of Tazewell, Va., Dean Peery and Brenda Walker, John Peery and Ruth Buckner, Nina and Earl White, Lena Farmer and Wayne Mullin all of Bluefield, Va.; eleven grandchildren, Sean Farmer of Loveland, Colo., Matt and Amy Peery of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., Gina Peery of Tazewell, Va., Danny and Sara White of Burke's Garden, Va., Jeremy and Ashley Farmer of Pensacola, Fla., Leon and Bethany Peery, Leanna White Ellison, and Ashley Farmer all of Bluefield, Va., Mary Peery, Sarah Peery, and Esther Peery all of Bluefield; eleven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Nell Elswick and Nannie White both of Tazewell, Va.; brother-in-law, Ish Lockhart of Tazewell, Va.; sister-in-law, Jeanette Davis and her husband Bill of Jefferson, N.C.; several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012 at Peery & St. Clair Funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell, Va. with the Reverend Ray Amos and the Reverend Steve Aker officiating. Burial will follow at Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, Va. Grandsons and friends will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7, 2012.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Tazewell County Animal Shelter 108 E. Main Street, Tazewell, VA 24651 or a favorite charity.
