PRINCETON —
George Webster Carroll, 86, died Saturday, Nov. 24, 2012 at GlenWood Park Retirement Village in Princeton.
Born Oct. 23, 1926 in Bluefield, W.Va., he was a son of the late Dan Marion Carroll and Leticia Celestia Smith Carroll. Mr. Carroll was a former resident of Bluefield, Va. and was a member of the First Baptist Church, Bluefield, W.Va. He loved the outdoors and grew up playing on East River Mountain. He was a graduate of Beaver High School, Carson-Newman College and Southwestern Theological Seminary. He was also an ordained Minister and pastored Baptist churches in both Itasca and Dallas, Texas for about eight years before heading to Africa as a missionary in 1956. Mr. Carroll had been a missionary for 42 years in East Africa and his greatest love was the people of Uganda. Anyone who knew him knew that he was a wonderful storyteller and loved to talk of Africa and growing up in Bluefield.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Carroll of Princeton; son, Tim Carroll, married to Jennifer; daughter, Melody Harrell, married to Sam; two brothers, Dan Carroll, married to Betty Alice and Arthur Carroll married to Barbara; one sister, Mattie Mullins (husband, Kelver deceased); six grandchildren; Allison Falcione, Brittany Zellhoefer, Corwin Harrell, Morganne Carroll, Christopher Harrell, Carter Harrell; and four great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at Mercer Funeral Home on Friday, Nov. 30, 2012 from 6:00-8:00 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church, Augusta Street, Bluefield, W.Va. with the Rev. Ed Fisher and the Rev. Ray Blundell officiating.
Burial will follow at Grandview Memory Gardens where Stephen Harrell, Christopher Harrell, Corwin Harrell, Steve Carroll, Andy Mullins, David Hooten, Danny Carroll and Bill Rich will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Abel Solademi, Arthur Carroll, Dan Carroll, Ralph Harrell, Jim Rice and Buddy Parker.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to “Widow's Might Uganda,” a ministry focusing on the needs of widows and orphans in Uganda. Contributions should be sent to First Baptist Church, 1325 Augusta St., Bluefield, WV 2470l, payable to “FBC” with the words “Widow's Might” on the memo line.
