Alice Lee Towler Allen

PRINCETON — Alice Lee Towler Allen, 91, of New Hope Road in Princeton, died Tuesday, November 20, 2012, at Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, Va. Born February 18, 1921, in Hampton, Va., she was the daughter of the late George Early Towler and Gertie Lee Mullins Towler.

She was a graduate of Shinglehouse School in Shinglehouse, Pa., and received a Business degree from Roanoke College.  She formerly worked for the Mercer County Assessor's office in Princeton. Alice was a very active member of First United Methodist Church in Princeton where she was a member of the Myrtle Bane Circle, the Holliday Sunday school class, and the Bereavement Team. For numerous years, she was also a member of the Mercer County Homemaker's Association. Alice loved to travel and spent many years visiting different parts of the world.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rex B. Allen; one son, Dexter Lee Allen; and two sisters, Dorothy Lilly, and Francis Cloyd. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

She is survived by one daughter, Elizabeth Allen Landreth and her husband Ed of Raleigh, N.C.; and two grandchildren, Katherine “Katie” Towler Landreth of Greenville, N.C., and Alexander “Alex” Christian Landreth of Raleigh, N.C.; and several special friends she dearly loved.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 24, 2012, at the George W. Seaver Chapel of Seaver Funeral Home in Princeton with the Rev. Scott Sears officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton. Men of the Church will serve as pallbearers. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until the service hour Saturday at Seaver Funeral Home in Princeton.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 304, Princeton, WV  24740, or Mercer County Animal Shelter, 961 Shelter Road, Princeton, WV  24740.
