RICHLANDS, Va —
Roger Lee Baldwin, 66, of Richlands, Va., passed away, Sunday, Feb. 12, 2012 at home. Roger was born in Bartley, W.Va. on June 25, 1945, and was the son of the late Clarence and Iowa Compton Baldwin. He spent most of his childhood growing up in Jewell Valley and graduated from Whitewood High School in 1963 and the mechanic school in Grundy, Va. Roger served in the United States Army from 1965 until 1967. He completed combat engineer training at an atomic demolition school. After his special training, Roger served his country in Germany. Roger returned to Virginia and worked at the Radford Army Ammunition Plant before moving to Richlands to reside closer to his family. He retired from Island Creek Coal where he worked in materials management in the central warehouse. Roger was a humble man who enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, like a good cup of coffee, and a visit from family or friends. His greatest joy came from spending time with his family, especially his grandsons who he dearly loved. Roger was very proud of his children and enjoyed every second he had with them. He enjoyed catching up with old friends and spending time with his dear neighbors who were like family to him.
Survivors are, two daughters, Kathy Baldwin Rogers and her husband, Sandy of Columbia, S.C., Rhonda Baldwin Keen and her husband, Tony of Wytheville, Va.; son, Wesley Baldwin of Cedar Bluff, Va.; sister, Shirley Chambers and her husband, Ralph of Pounding Mill, Va.; his precious grandchildren, Dillon Johnson, Blair Rogers, Jacob Rogers, Riley Keen; and many cousins; nieces; nephews; and friends also survive.
Funeral services for Roger Lee Baldwin will be conducted Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Va. Interment will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Va. Relatives and friends will serve as pallbearers. Friends may call after 6:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Va.
