PRINCETON —
Emmette Boone Martin, 85, of 261 Alfalfa Road in Princeton, died Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013 at his residence. Born July 4, 1927 in Pettrey, he was the son of the late Dan Luster Martin and Pansy Gertrude Ball Martin.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War serving from 1947 to 1953. Emmette was a Prisoner of War for thirty-three months and attained the rank of First Sergeant before discharge. On March of 1951 he was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross for extraordinary heroism in action in November of 1950. He was a retired machinist working on the railroad in Chicago, coal mines in West Virginia, Radford Arsenal, West Virginia Armature, and finally retired from Downard Hydraulics. He attended the Salvation Through Christ Church. Emmette loved hunting, fishing and gardening. He enjoyed spending time in the woods and cutting his own firewood.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Alice Jo McKinney.
Survivors include his wife of fifty-nine years, Ruth Helen Burton Martin of Princeton; one daughter, Dreama Dianne Martin of Princeton; one brother, Kenneth “Badger” Martin and wife Jean of Lerona; close friends, Carl Peyton, James Cleary, Erie Walters, Jim Robinette and Oakey Calvert; and his special dog “Killer”.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013 at the George W. Seaver Chapel of Seaver Funeral Home in Princeton with Pastor Roger Lusk officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton with the West Virginia National Guard Honor Guard and the Mercer County Veterans Council conducting military graveside rites. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Friends may call at the funeral home from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18, 2013 (today).
